UPDATED - ALERT - Frightening Text Messages Being Forwarded Around NY Jews January 2, 2009 3:00PM EST: [UPDATE BELOW] With the situation in Gaza deteriorating by the day, and anti-semitism rampant around the world, thousands of NY Jews were frightened upon receiving the following text message which has been going around on Friday afternoon:
“A Jewish woman gave a tip to a Muslim taxi driver and out of appreciation he warned her not to go to Manhattan next week Wednesday.”
YWN has reached out to high-ranking members of the NYPD, and have stated that although they received the same text message, “there are no credible threats to be concerned about - and don’t even know where this text message originated from”.
The only message that they do have for the public is the same message that they have been saying since 9/11. That message is “always be aware of your surroundings, be vigilant, and if you see anything suspicious contact the police department immediately to report what you have seen”.
UPDATE 3:50PM EST: YWN has just spoken with NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind who tells us that he has received various reports regarding this ‘threat’ and has personally contacted the FBI who is currently investigating them.
He thanked YWN for our alert to calm the public, and echoed the call for calm and vigilance at anytime and any location. “If you see something, say something,” Hikind said.
“The FBI and the NYPD take these types of threats very seriously, and investigate them thoroughly to ensure the safety of the public.”

Please. Muslim terrorists have been trying everything they could think of to hit NY for the last seven years, and they have failed several times. Now, the same people who’s idea of warfare is lobbing unguided rockets in the general directon of residential areas are going to put together and execute an attack on the most closely guarded island in the world in less than two weeks.
You should have waited a couple of weeks before you posted this. George Bush kept us safe for seven years. We’ll see what happens if Obama comes in and starts making major adjustments to the current national security proceedures.

Well, considering that a) the poster in question posts in haiku and b) he was accused of thinking he’s ee cummings ... someone gotta call shenanigans on the false comparison.
Not really. I think it makes us look bad here when people post that quote, because he was referring to domestic immigrants who were worried about being abused after 9/11. When I see it posted on FR, it usually implies that he plans to side with the Muslims against the best interests of the US. In this case, it implies that he will side with them against the Jews.
I don't trust Obama, but I disapprove of people spreading falsehoods about him.

It’s real, and they’re all over FR. I don’t mean the majority of posters are, but they’re riddling it. When in doubt, check a few pages of their comments, and it becomes as clear as day.
0bama spreads enough falsehoods about himself anyway. He’s also said (sorry, don’t have quote) that he wants to call all the Muslim leaders and meet with them to figure out how to make it so they don’t hate the US as much.
That in itself is entirely damning, no need for anyone to spice it up.
