UPDATED - ALERT - Frightening Text Messages Being Forwarded Around NY Jews January 2, 2009 3:00PM EST: [UPDATE BELOW] With the situation in Gaza deteriorating by the day, and anti-semitism rampant around the world, thousands of NY Jews were frightened upon receiving the following text message which has been going around on Friday afternoon:
“A Jewish woman gave a tip to a Muslim taxi driver and out of appreciation he warned her not to go to Manhattan next week Wednesday.”
YWN has reached out to high-ranking members of the NYPD, and have stated that although they received the same text message, “there are no credible threats to be concerned about - and don’t even know where this text message originated from”.
The only message that they do have for the public is the same message that they have been saying since 9/11. That message is “always be aware of your surroundings, be vigilant, and if you see anything suspicious contact the police department immediately to report what you have seen”.
UPDATE 3:50PM EST: YWN has just spoken with NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind who tells us that he has received various reports regarding this ‘threat’ and has personally contacted the FBI who is currently investigating them.
He thanked YWN for our alert to calm the public, and echoed the call for calm and vigilance at anytime and any location. “If you see something, say something,” Hikind said.
“The FBI and the NYPD take these types of threats very seriously, and investigate them thoroughly to ensure the safety of the public.”

September 6, 2001: New York Student Forecasts Destruction of WTC
Antoinette DiLorenzo, teaching English to a class of Pakistani immigrants, asks a student gazing out the window, “What are you looking at?”
The student points towards the WTC, and says, “Do you see those two buildings? They won’t be standing there next week.”
At the time, nothing is thought of it, but on September 13, the FBI will interview all the people in the classroom and confirm the event.
The FBI later places the boy’s family under surveillance but apparently is unable to find a connection to the 9/11 plot.
An MSNBC reporter later sets out to disprove this “urban myth,” but to his surprise, finds all the details of the story are confirmed. The fact that the family members are recent immigrants from Pakistan might mean the information came from Pakistan.
[MSNBC, 10/12/2001] Supposedly, on November 9, 2001, the same student predicts there will be a plane crash on November 12.
On that day, American Airlines Flight 587 will crash on takeoff from New York, killing 260 people. Investigators will later determine that the crash is accidental.
One official at the school later says many Arab-American students have come forward with their own stories about having prior knowledge before 9/11: “Kids are telling us that the attacks didn’t surprise them. This was a nicely protected little secret that circulated in the community around here.”

It is exceedingly rare for someone to be so well defended on FR if attacked, so that alone gives me pause to take this post more seriously than I normally would.
If I may make a suggestion, perhaps you could ask the Moderator(s) to update your post to include the fact that some cabbies’ actual identifying information has been passed onto the proper authorities. This fact distinguishes this report from the Snopes rumor in that the Snopes rumor is based on nothing but an e-mail chain mail and/or an untraceable text message.

Not entirely true. If some group were to take credit (almost certain to happen), there would be an almost-immediate response, which would bring condemnation from the left for not waiting for Obama to take care of it.
Action against state actors is easy. Action against non-state actors is very difficult.
As to the libs condemnation, Does it really matter what Pres. Bush does, he is going to be condemed by them no matter what he does.
