Panetta to Be Named C.I.A. Director

President-elect Barack Obama has selected Leon E. Panetta, the former congressman and White House chief of staff, to take over the Central Intelligence Agency, an organization that Mr. Obama criticized during the campaign for using interrogation methods he decried as torture, Democratic officials said Monday.

Mr. Panetta has a reputation in Washington as a competent manager with strong background in budget issues, but has little hands-on intelligence experience. If confirmed by the Senate, he will take control of the agency most directly responsible for hunting senior Al Qaeda leaders around the globe, but one that has been buffeted since the Sept. 11 attacks by leadership changes and morale problems.

“This is change?...” Yeh...the Obama Administration is changing into the Clinton Admnistration.

We should have foreseen this. Obama is a ghost. He has no organization that can expose itself to daylight. He has no college buddies, law school buddies, swift boat buddies, frat buddies. Nobody. He's a nobody and the only Democrat hacks young enough to serve the Nobama administration are the play babies that worked for Clintoon.,p. Should be an interesting year!

Can there be any better indicator than this that our foreign policy is going to go right down the shitter?

This is not a good development. I suspect that other intelligence organizations are busy rolling up sensitive operations and, basically, planning for the inevitable.

This does it for me. We're building an underground shelter. Yes I am completely serious. Since 2001, we've always known the Bush admin could handle the homeland security and the threats to America from abroad. Clearly 0bama cannot.

I would NOT want to be a CIA field operative after January 20, 2009.

“Panetta has not a single shred of previous experience that would make him a good candidate for this position. His most most recent prediction was belonging to an anti-war group predicting defeat in Iraq, which was colossallly wrong.”

How can you nominate someone that most probably has never even been in a fistfight. Scratching someone’s eyes out just doesn’t cut it for me.

Um, the US Government does not care about Shariah supporting causes (Saudi funded or not) in the United States.

In fact, they promote them via the State Department (and through various other elements of government on the State and Local level).

Neither are the careers of Tenet, Deutch, Woolsey, Turner, Schlesinger, Raborn, McCone & Hillenkoetter replete with intelligence experience either.

Maybe that’s why the CIA couldn’t see the wall coming down or 9/11, the failure of the Bay of Pigs, their incorrect estimates of Soviet strength, etc, etc, etc.

As a CIA field operative, how many days notice do you have to give? Just wondering.

I think this is the proof that Obama’s birth certificate is not kosher.

Please, give it a rest. This has nothing to do with a birth certificate.

Try to stay on topic.

Where is the Republican leadership to criticize these hirings?

Where is the leadership asking why zer0bama hasn’t weighed in on the Israel-Hamas situation?

When Bush sneezes, the Dems are out there front and center criticizing how and when he sneezed, and then criticize the choice of Kleenex he used.

Yet the “R’s” just sit by while zer0 displays his ineptness and don’t utter a word while the complicit MSM giddily reports Obama’s every action and word as if it were sheer genius.

The “R’s” should be out there blasting zer0bama for appointing such a lightweight to such a position of power and National Security.

Does this guy have any kind of experience in military or intelligence work at all?

Maybe he was covert like Valerie Plame, before her life was jeopardized when she was outed by Rove, and Cheney, and Libby. /s

We are both on the same page. Unfortunately, Obama is chapters behind. I wonder if the average American will have any thoughts about this one way or the other? If I were a New Yorker I would be paying attention and I would be very upset, especially if I voted for this Bozo.

John McCain will say it is a fantastic well deserved appointment.....”My friends, this is good for the country and I fully support Mr. Panetta: A true patriot and friend of mine”.

Maybe I too, could be qualified to run the CIA???

Nowadays, probably. The CIA is, for all intents and purposes, a joke. Credit Congress for its wondrous oversight.
