Though not widely reported, rumors slowly began circulating last month that former GOP presidential nominee John McCain may face a primary challenge in 2010 from former Congressman J.D. Hayworth.
(Rep. Jeff Flake and Rep. John Shadegg were both likely candidates for the open seat if McCain were to win the presidency, but it appears unlikely either would challenge McCain.)
McCain, of course, would be hard to beat. He garnered close to 54 percent of the vote in Arizona's general election. More importantly, he easily won the state's primary, garnering more than 47 percent of the vote (though exit polls show Romney won the conservative vote in Arizona.)
But McCain has long been disliked by many conservatives, and it is highly likely that an effort to un-seat him would be greeted by many conservatives across the nation. A credible anti-McCain conservative candidate -- such as Hayworth -- would most likely have no difficulty in raising substantial funds.

Yeah, McCain proved what he's capable of this past fall. And now he's back kissing congressional Democrat a$$ as usual. Sorry, but suck ups aren't popular around here...
Our Presidential nominee, Senator McCain, will not have any trouble in a Primary. He is very popular in Arizona. We need all the military veterans on Capital Hill that we can get!
Have fun with post 46...if you haven’t already done so. Lol.
FReeper Aye-Aye! Natahe!
I’m dubious. The #1 rule of the GOP is to protect the incumbents.
LMAO !
Your correct ....sorry for the slow reply. Had to go toss some wood on the fire !
Forget the GOP. You’ll see some people here say he must be supported because Arizona isn’t a “conservative” state and a real conservative can’t win and McCain votes with us must of the time. They seem to forget voting on procedural matters factors into that score and not enough weight is given to the major issues on which 9 out 10 he’s against us.
But if I had to choose between Democrat and Republican, McCain’s my #1 wish to see go down the next election. I’d prefer a conservative beat him in the primary, that’s up to Arizona conservatives & Republicans to take him down.
Well at least wait till they donate to the freepathon before we show em the door......:o)
Romney was the most articulate, energetic, candidate among the group.
If you wait for perfection in a conservative candidate, you will be waiting till doomsday.
Consider: Reagan passed the biggest abortion funding law in 1967.
George HW Bush was PRO-CHOICE until the day he was chosen for VP by Reagan.
If being a lifetime 100% conservative was the only criteria for winning, Republicans would have flocked to Duncan Hunter or Rick Santorum.
JD Hayworth would not have lost in 2006.
It takes a unique blend of charisma, looks, articulation, and politics to be a successful Republican.
Romney fell victim to the class envy crowd in the GOP, which I now realize is much bigger than I imagined.
I think most AZ Republicans think that being a registered Republican “requires” them to vote for McPain. Otherwise, why would he still be in office?
That treasonous piece of garbage mcloon needs to retire, either to the hacienda or a pine box, either one is acceptable at this point although it would have been better last spring before he put the marxist messiah in office.
Whatever Arizona gets in his place will be an improvement.
Good. Remove him. Replace with a conservative.
Predicting a fall for our new King?
Sarcasm?
Any conservative, anybody.
FYI: That choice wasn't made by GOP voters. It was made by (a) the media and (b) crossover voters in early primaries.
Strange posting history there. Look out for the Viking Kitties.

I don’t think he’ll make to 2010, no. Whether by bullet or corruption, I don’t know. But the only way to become a martyr is to leave the stage.
