Selling Barack Obama memorabilia has been lucrative for everyone from souvenir dealers to newspaper publishers to the Franklin Mint.
Now, the Obama inaugural team is getting in on the act.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee has just opened up an online store where people can buy official Obama collectibles, most of them related to the inauguration. (It is separate from the store on the Obama campaign Web site.)
Fans can pre-order panoramic photographs ($400) and posters of the swearing-in ceremony, which takes place Jan. 20. Also for sale are designer T-shirts and tote bags from the likes of Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and Zac Posen, who also created similar items for Mr. Obamas campaign.
We found that merchandising efforts during the campaign were successful, that people were so enthusiastic and they wanted to have a little piece of history, said Linda Douglass, a spokeswoman for the inaugural committee. Obama basketball jersey.
We have always planned to raise money in as many different ways as possible, to make us less reliant on big donations and to make it possible to prohibit donations from corporations, unions and lobbyists, she said.

I was walking around DC a few weeks ago and made my way over to the National Tree on the Elipse. Parked on 15th St. was a truck selling hot chocolate and Obama tee-shirts. I thought that was an interesting and ironic hot & cold combination.
If they come out with an Barack Obama trash can, I may consider buying that.
Just like they do it in Hollywood- first design all the merchandise, arrange for advertising, flood the market with hype and then produce a crappy movie as an afterthought.
It’s a historic event - The beginning of the end of the American Experiment abd the triumph of the nanny state.
One day, it may prove to be as iconic as Chamberlain’s ‘Peace in our time’ photograph, or than one of the Frenchman crying as Nazis marched through Paris.
