Spending billions on trying to reduce carbon emissions is one giant con that is depriving third world countries of vital funds to tackle famine, HIV and other diseases, Sammy Wilson said.
The DUP minister has been heavily criticised by environmentalists for claiming that ongoing climatic shifts are down to nature and not mankind.
But while acknowledging his views on global warming may not be popular, the East Antrim MP said he was not prepared to be bullied by eco fundamentalists.
Ill not be stopped saying what I believe needs to be said about climate change, he said.
most of the people who shout about climate change have not read one article about it
I think in 20 years time we will look back at this whole climate change debate and ask ourselves how on earth were we ever conned into spending the billions of pounds which are going into this without any kind of rigorous examination of the background, the science, the implications of it all. Because there is now a degree of hysteria about it, fairly unformed hysteria Ive got to say as well.
I mean I get it in the Assembly all the time and most of the people who shout about climate change have not read one article about climate change, not read one book about climate change, if you asked them to explain how they believe theres a connection between CO2 emission and the effects which they claim theres going to be, if you ask them to explain the thought process or the modelling that is required and the assumptions behind that and how tenuous all the connections are, they wouldnt have a clue.

Bump
Sammy gets it.
Good to see that more politicians are willing to say that the Emperor has no clothes.
“...most of the people who shout about climate change have not read one article about it “
Boy, ain’t that the truth!
One brave man stoutly admits the emperor has no clothes.
Meanwhile the Church of England funnels $200 Million to Al Gore’s “investment fund” ....
With you on that one, Sammy.
Re: the glaciers are melting in Antartica, I read some useful facts this week. They were in an email giving a number of interesting phenomena, but could be quickly sourced.
What does it take to make ice? Moisture and cold. Antartica has had no rainfall in thousands of years and it is frigid. It is drier than the Gobi desert. The glaciers are evaporating just as ice cubes do when left for months in the freezer. Meanwhile, other glaciers where moisture and cold converge are growing larger.
vaudine
There are lots of people making of fortune off the hysteria. Madoff is a softball compared to this scheme
Good job Sammy.
I get this all the time, too. Start talking about the laws of physics, gravity and the ever popular valence shell and the bonds that hold together gasses like CO2 and how not permanent they are (we'll ignore sunspots and the historical record for now) and you get "but it's bad for the environment." Honestly, our education system has produced an unreal number of useful idiots and the whole "climate change," "global warming" thing has been a big trap.
Who can be against clean air and clean water? The ecotards have used that to increasingly promote Big Government and other foolishness.
For example, never mind that mankind has never had perfectly pure water to drink, yet Clinton, is a last minute presidential directive, sought to reduce the tolerable amount of arsenic in potable water. To accomplish this would have been prohibitively expensive and impracticable.
The sheeple buy into this because the left dominates in the area of propaganda --- the media and academia.
Somebody has to be conned it buy all the fancy smanshy recycled garbage made into high priced ugly furniture.
I did see a cool tote bag made out of a rice sack but uh not gonna pay $80 bucks for it.
ice cubes evaporate?
What about the party ice in the plastic bag?
Lil cold outside to start the fruit ice smoothie season. Hmmm
To an extent, it's fear mongering, IMO. And when people don't have the knowledge to fend off ideas and proclamations that defy provable science, they are easy prey.
None of us wants to live a polluted place with unclean water and air full of poisons, but the system has to work, too. There has to be a happy medium, if you will. Most of us, for economic well-being if nothing else, can combine trips to save on fuel, do the little things to make our houses more energy efficient. I don't mind taking my own bags to the grocery store (saving the store money which saves me money) and putting recyclable materials out separately from the rest of the trash, but destroying what has been built in the name of "the health of the planet" when the planet can do more damage to itself than man ever could in every possible way (see volcanic eruptions) is unconscionable.
I have a close relative who lives in Chicago, does that qualify me to vote for this guy?
The President of the Czech Republic and now this guy. I was thinking of going into exile in Canada, but Ireland is looking like a good Plan B.
Whaooooooooo ........ A pol who can actually see and talk about what my grand-daughter saw and said two years ago? Remarkable!
