A federal judge in Washington ruled Tuesday that the government was properly holding two Guantánamo detainees as enemy combatants, the first clear-cut victories for the Bush administration in what are expected to be more than 200 similar cases.
The ruling by a federal district judge, Richard J. Leon, followed his decision last month in a separate case declaring that five Algerians had been held unlawfully at the detention camp in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, for nearly seven years and ordering their release.

He was appointed by President Bush. That minor little factoid will keep the DU / Kos / Moveon.org crowd in conspiracy theories for quite some time.

Every one of these courts should be dismissing the lawsuits on the grounds that they have no authority in the matter.
The travesty here is that these suits were ever allowed in the first place. A court of law it the wrong place to fight a war!

That’s because back then the press understood what was at stake. I have a book that describes the 1918-1919 flu pandemic and it covers the attitude of the public during WWI. Amazing how they didn’t take the attitude of “Give Peace A Chance.” They bonded together and happily sacrificed all they could.
These days the press is so full of spoiled fops who were never deprived of anything, they see this as something that is disrupting their ability to compose poetry and bash the Establishment that is trying to protect their sorry asses.
