As a lifelong Christian, I am deeply offended by the creche that keeps appearing on the Chester County Courthouse grounds. It is racially, culturally and religiously insensitive.Jesus and His family were Middle Eastern and most likely had very dark hair, eyes, and skin — yet this offensive creche, showing the Holy Family and others in the Christmas drama as if they were northern Europeans with light skin and hair, keeps showing up on public property. Mary has blond hair, no less! And all the others have chalky skin and either blond or very light brown hair! I will not, as I have heard from some, judge the offending creche to be "racist" or "bigoted" because I prefer to assume it reflects only ignorance — and not animus.
However, I do wish that the people who put up this offensive "nativity scene" would be more attuned to history, culture, and the Bible and that next year they would provide a more realistic and appropriate display.
Additionally, the public officials who approve this creche might take a closer and more sensitive look at it and realize that it is offensive to many of the Chester County voters who pay their salaries.

I think it’s an abbreviation for “douche bag”, although the spelling is strange.
That is because it is latin.
Because Porter is a loon. She and Dr Martin Luther King are polar opposites. Dr. King judged people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. With Porter, even Jesus can't catch a break from white liberal guilt. Porter sort of has that Munchousen By proxy thing going on. She bash Jesus because she needs the attention.
As I said, the Jews of Jesus' time were vastly different/darker types than todays Jews who spread through the entire world and made contact to Slavic/Germanic people and thus also have blondes/light types.

We are all the same in Christ- no master, no slave, no rich or poor. color is irrelevant.
ESPECIALLY if you are a statue.
I hope next year, she is able to take time out of her “railing against inanimate objects” schedule and make her own nativity with whatever colors seem appropriate to her after exhaustive research on the subject of middle eastern cultures of the 1st century and their skin pigmentation.
Until then, I relish the opportunity to not read anymore of her opinions.
But as you can see from the Afghan girl, she is not blonde/light as i.e. Germanic or Slavic people. To compare the genetical make up of todays Jews with the biblical period is invalid. Despite the occasional contact to others, they were both more homogenetical and the people they contacted were largely darker than the people they contacted during the diaspora in Europe.
And we should give a damn because???
Why does that surprise you? Its a classical Lib tactic. “As a lifelong Republican, I now see that the GOP is full of bigots and I’m voting for Obama.” “As a lifelong Christian, I now see how hateful Christians are . . . .” etcetera. When someone says in print that they are a “lifelong Christian/Republican/conservative”, the only thing you can be certain of is that they are not.
Another case of racial, ethnic, and religious insensitivity... deliberately insulting all the boobs out there!!!

I was a peace studies secretary for almost 9 years before they rescued me. I also knew Chris Hedges when I first began working there as a floater in 1977. He was okay then.
Well yes, depicting a dark-haired Mary would probably be more realistic, but it’s hardly the type of thing to get “offended” over. It’s a public nativity display, I’m sure that accuracy wasn’t the goal. I’m also fairly certain it shows both shepherds and wisemen, as if they both visited at the same time; even though in reality the wisemen arrived a good year or so later.
As usual with these types, much ado about NOTHING.

Mary, Joseph, and Jesus probably didn’t look like Jews of today. At present, 80% of the world’s Jews are Ashkenazi, that is Jews hailing from central Europe. They are lighter skinned than their relatives from other parts of the world; occasionally even having distinctly European features like blond hair or blue eyes, these traits being picked up from their white neighbors during the middle ages.

Ummmm no. In fact definitly no.
After the diaspora Jews were spread through many parts of the world. They intermarried with the local populations and took on their racial characteristics. That’s why today you have Jews that look like white Europeans, Ethiopian Jews that are as any African, and Middle-Eastern Jews that look just like their Arab neighbors. Heck, they even located a pocket of Jews in India, and guess what? They looked like Indians.
