Article says swarms of quakes are common, but other articles say the whole caldera has been undergoing record uplift since 2004, and the patterns of these recent quakes, suggest a trigger event at the top of the existing magma dome, two days ago, followed by some very shallow quakes, up till recently, as little as 330 feet below surface.
Water plus gassy magma can make a really big mess.
I'm no geologist, and I've seen no indications the real geologists are worried, but I don't like the pattern suggested by the anecdotal events so far.

Not that I think there's reason to worry either, but just in case: We're DOOOOOMED!!!

I don’t like this either because the ramifications of a large eruption wouldn’t be pretty.

Some of the largest volcanoes on earth are situated directly underneath Yellowstone. I seem to remember a Discovery special that said were they to blow their tops it would be a disaster of epic proportions.

Months (?) ago I watched a very interesting NAT GEO documentary on the Yellowstone caldera ...frightening even.
Wonder if NG will replay it in response to these current swarms - could have tremendous rating potential.
Anyone????

The eruptions mapped last night are under Yellowstone Lake in the area currently experiencing significant uplift. Let's hope it doesn't punch through.

Maybe it’s getting ready to blow the caldera, or maybe we still have 1,000 years to go..... I hope we get at least a few more generation reared before anyone has to figure out how to deal with the messy aftermath of such an event — deep layers of ash all over a huge swath of North America etc. At least the libs won’t be able to whine about “global warming” after that event!!!

Yellowstone is classified as a supervolcano... rare and hugely dangerous. Lets hope it settles down... especially since I own land in Wyoming.

I believe there were a few avalanches in Jackson hole, killing a skier in the past few days. Probably related?? Went to college up there, LOVED it.

When THIS puppy blows — and it will — it will me HUGE.
Now if we could just get the prevailing winds over Yellowstone to blow from east to west for a few days after it does, it would solve the California and Hollywood “problems” as well. If we could get some of those West Hollywood types to stand outside, face East and suck for a few days, that’d do it.
