An offensive, racially tinged song entitled Barack the Magic Negro has become an issue in the battle for the leadership of the Republican party.
The song was included in a CD distributed by Chip Saltman, who is seeking to be elected the next party chairman.
Saltman, former campaign manager for Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who fought unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination this year, sent out the CD as a Christmas present to party members. It is a compilation of songs critical of liberals entitled We Hate the US.
He defended his move, saying that anyone listening to it would know it was intended to be light-hearted and satirical, and the row had been created by the liberal media.
But his main rival for the post, Mike Duncan, the present incumbent, issued a statement saying: "The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party. I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate, as it clearly does not move us in the right direction."
The song gained prominence last year when Rush Limbaugh, the rightwing radio show host, began airing it.

racism is dead in America since “we” elected a (semi) black guy.
as such, whites are now able to mock blacks based on their race just like the blacks mock whites. for a sample of black comedians mocking whites based on race, check out BET sometime
It was stupid for Saltzman to put out such a CD at all, much less to use that song. It’s fine for Rush, but somebody has to figure out that the PARTY should not be about ridiculing others, but about pushing positive solutions to this country’s problems.
Let the entertainment class make fun of liberals. Let’s have the Republican party point out the serious flaws in the liberal policy machine, and promote the conservative principles that will make this country strong again.
I don’t mind if this puts Saltzman out to pasture though. My guess is he’d be shooting the RNC in the foot just like this on a constant basis.
I suppose you believe that by driving more people away from the Republican party, you think we will win more elections?
We need conservative candidates, conservative philosophy, conservative ideas.
We need 51% of the population. We need to bring people into the party that don’t agree much with us conservatives, in order to win elections.
We shouldn’t confuse our candidates with the electorate. We don’t want squishy moderate candidates, but we need squishy moderate voters.
At least until we manage to educate over half the country about conservative principles.
they sound like freepers on south bashing threads

we need anyone but this PC clown
funny pic.....ain’t that the truth though?
No.
iirc it was Ronald Maximus who said,
"The Republican Party cannot be all things to all people."
That is Anti Big Tent, Pro sticking by one's principles and what the Republican Party *used* to stand for: P-r-i-n-c-i-p-l-e-s.
Plus, pandering to the lowest common denominator, i.e.: 'special interest groups' to get their vote is borderline prostitution and the Democrats M.O. And that's what Duncan and *moderates* propose - be Democrat Lite. Well *bullsit*, once you abandon your principles there's nothing left.
Want to see something else funny?
Do a Google or Yahoo or whatever Search engine for "Kwanzaa, white, female, elementary school" and marvel at the results.
I didn’t see ONE Dem apologizing when SNL called Mr. Palin a Pedophile.
I believe the song parady was written by Paul Shanklin and played on Limbaugh’s show.It was a take-off from the article in the L.A. Times by a black liberal writer.
At least Hanukkah is based on Judeo-Christian teachings. Kwanzaa is based on communist principles.
Saltsman is one of the reasons that Tn. is one of only a few states that went totally RED the last election.
We have a majority Republican state house for the first time since reconstruction.
Duncan don't get it, does he?
You’re right, see my post 58 which has a link tot he article.
I think this shows how the rest of the country views this stupid song and the GOP.

Look at Obama’s hair-thin, seven-million-vote margin in the election and see how much damage all the racist verbiage in the election did to his chances. Now think how badly he’s going to get beaten in ‘12 if right-wing radio succeeds in portraying him as a pimped-out-Cadillac-convertible driving, white-lipped, bone-in-his-nose welfare coon with a white woman in the front seat and a stolen big-screen TV in the back.’
Or maybe not.
Seriously, monkeyhawk. If the right wants to marginalize itself even further and become the party of Bull Connor, maybe we should all be vewwy, vewwy quiet.
Thank You.
You should re-read then-Governor Reagan's "Big Tent" speech, and understand the distinction between welcoming a broad range of voters by offering them policies that work, vs pandering to their personal beliefs.
Ronald Reagan's Big Tent Speech, of which I provide a small section here proving my point about needing a broad range of voters:
Fortunately for those millions of concerned citizens, we too had paused to take inventory. We discovered we could no longer afford the luxury of internal fighting, backbiting and throat-cutting. We discovered our philosophical difference with those presently in power was greater than any grudge or split within our own ranks. Were ready and in position to offer an alternative for those concerned citizens who wanted to join with others, not to win a contest, but to preserve a way of life.Of course, if Ronald Reagan gave a speech today calling for a Republican party with "room in our tent for many views", most of the people on this board would denounce him as some RINO liberal looking to corrupt the party. We must keep the door open offering our party as the only practical answer for those who, overall, are individualists. And because this is the great common denominator this dedication to the belief in mans aspirations as an individual we cannot offer them a narrow sectarian party in which all must swear allegiance to prescribed commandments.
Such a party can be highly disciplined, but it does not win elections. This kind of party soon disappears in a blaze of glorious defeat, and it never puts into practice its basic tenets, no matter how noble they may be.
The Republican Party, both in this state and nationally, is a broad party. There is room in our tent for many views; indeed, the divergence of views is one of our strengths. Let no one, however, interpret this to mean compromise of basic philosophy or that we will be all things to all people for political expediency.
Read the speech. You will see Reagan warning against those who, like many here at FR, put ideological purity in the form of a litmus test, not to bring people into the party but to drive them away, and in the process drive the party into what Ronald Reagan called "a blaze of glorious defeat".
Reagan understood what many here seem not to understand -- that if a party does not WIN ELECTION, it doesn't matter how "noble" their purpose, they cannot put any of their ideas into practice.
That is what I meant by "put out" -- he sent it out. He did not write the songs on the CD.
Thanks for the reply.I read and type very slowly.By the time I read your post and replied, 58 was already in.
