Many conservatives are still reeling from the sense that America has finally been suckered into a catastrophic swing to the Left. Has our luck finally run out?
How can I be so sure we will survive a turn to socialism? Other than our response to 9/11?
First, we've been here before. The New Deal was socialism, and it harmed this country by prolonging the Great Depression, according to economists. We grew out of the damage. LBJ's War on Poverty was socialism, doing enormous harm to black families by supporting social pathology.
Our third wave of socialism was affirmative action -- race-and-gender socialism. I have personally watched the decay of academic values in education as a result of affirmative action, and the rise of a gender-and-race paranoia, with many good and decent people being falsely accused because of their race and gender. I believe that affirmative action has led to more racism, just as gender-based affirmative action has undermined trust between men and women. It has been tremendously destructive, not just in the US but also in Europe -- which has left itself wide open to Muslim terrorism because it cannot allow itself to even think the words "Muslim terrorism." It's a kind of pc madness.
So we have seen a great deal of socialism already in the United States. In many cases it has been destructive. The evidence is right in front of our eyes, but if 52% of the voters cast their votes for socialist goodies, they deserve what they will get, both good and bad.
My optimistic point is that the country will survive and thrive regardless.

I don’t think so. America as I knew it ceased to exist after this fraud was elected. We are for some interesting times for sure.
Oh, there will be elections, but you will never see a republican in the white house again with these commies in charge.
Unless the voter rolls are purged and everyone re registers, this election proved to me that elections have turned into a sham.

I have a hard time believing that “True Conservatives” could vote for Obama, no matter how badly they disliked McCain.
And keep up the good work. 4 years of Obama is going to bring us 8 years of Palin...
...not likely...if there’s a slower moving target than Palin out there, I’ve yet to see it...all the lefties had to do was find a good impressionist and Palin was forever cast as a buffoonish cartoon...

The Republican Party (The only viable political party "conservatives" flocked too) took the controls and crash landed.
The "gimme" crowd has overtaken the "America first" crowd.
Conservatism in the United States is officially dead for the foreseeable future. As will be capitalism when the communist/socialists get done.

...Reagan had years and years of movie critics to thicken his hide...best play for Sarah, IMHO, stay in Alaska and thrive, but if she must run for POTUS, do so in 2016...Obama will be reelected, the Pubs cannot waste their most promising in lost causes...
Once upon a time the GOP was responsive to most people of this country. Then the Bush’s came along and it has been down hill ever since.

if thats the case, i want some of the tax money that has been stolen over the last few generations as i have never seen any of the proceeds.
I’m not optimistic at all. Uncle Sam was still young and vigorous a hundred years ago, when they told him he needed attention and they affixed leeches and started to bleed him. After a generation they put him on a blood machine. Now he’s on a few hundred machines and meds and he has pretty much forgotten what it’s like to live without all this interference. He’s afraid to try, wouldn’t know where to start anyway. Outside his window, a few freepers are picketing and getting nowhere. He has about ten bedsores for every patriot out there, fifty doctors, a thousand nurses, and around 250 million fellow patients in the same general condition.
He will not be saved by picket signs and prayers and ballots.
He will likely get his organs harvested before long, since they are beginning to show damage. Bids are already placed, anyway.
If you feel you must pray for him please do it privately, they say it frightens the other patients.
Positively no shooting. Gun-free zone. (If you don’t think so, just try.)
