SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The lead attorney for Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he plans to submit President-elect Barack Obama's internal report on contacts with the scandal-plagued governor to the Illinois House committee weighing impeachment.
Attorney Ed Genson told the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday the report would support Blagojevich's claims that he hasn't done anything wrong in his handling of Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat.
Earlier in the week, Obama released the internal report supporting his insistence that there had been no inappropriate contact with the governor's office by Obama or his staff.
State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie, chairwoman of the committee, said Sunday that Genson's request to submit the report would probably be approved. But she expressed skepticism that the report would prove the governor's innocence.
"Maybe in this particular instance someone didn't run a stop sign, but it doesn't say they didn't run a different stop sign," she said.
The House panel is scheduled to meet Monday.
Genson's move comes after the committee rejected his request to subpoena incoming Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, whose testimony he said would also bolster Blagojevich's claims of innocence.

“Maybe in this particular instance someone didn’t run a stop sign, but it doesn’t say they didn’t run a different stop sign,”
There are cans of worms and BIG cans of worms... (and the newspapers are losing their control of the populace)
Interesting times are coming (hopefully)
Interesting strategy on the part of Blago’s attorney. If they condemn Blago on the basis of these contacts, they have to call the messiah a liar, which they won’t do.
The bad news for Blagojevich is that they have so many other areas to impeach him on.
Yes. This is true, this_far. The media can no longer control the populace like it once could, which could eventually mean that politicians are forced to become more accountable. Hmmm. Interesting concept.
“The media can no longer control the populace like it once could”
After the election of THE ONE, the most magnificently media-worshipped Messiah, you can still believe that???
Israel surely used disproportionate force considering the situation at hand. This is rapidly becoming an existential problem for Israel. Israel should have gone for a modest and carefully thought out obliteration of Gaza.
WRONG thread. I should go to bed now.

That is pure, unaldulterated bullcrap.
Obama got elected because the media controlled the information. Nothing more, nothing less.
The panel rejected his subpoena request after U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said testimony from Emanuel and others would interfere with his investigation.
So Blago remains in the crosshairs but others who are likely involved are insulated? Nice going Fitz.
Unless Fitz plans to open subsequent investigations on Rahm and Co., but you'll not catch me holding my breath.
And Blago out of office by February?? Pfft. Blago's going to fight this tooth and nail.
Ping, Leni. Any other thoughts?
Maybe in this particular instance someone didnt run a stop sign, but it doesnt say they didnt run a different stop sign,
That is so true. I know someone who recently had to give a deposition. The attorney was trying to get them to admit to a particular action but the attorney didn’t ask the right question. My friend answered honestly to some very specific questions. BUT if the attorney had asked the right question, in the right way, he would have heard what he was looking for.
Since his job is on the line, he's not about to widen the investigation at this time.
In fact, it's impossible to do any projections right now because of that fact.
However, I really don't think the U.S. Attorney has enough on Barack personally for any indictment now or later, so our hopes are probably in vain on that angle.
Rahmbo? Perhaps, but I doubt it.
Hussein will be sworn in, Rahm will embark on his Rasputin duties to the new president and Blogo will take the pipe.
Fitz will take kudos for his take-down of gubernatorial corruption, will submit in due time his resignation to the President, and will go into private practice/business of some kind (like Guiliani did), making millions.
Leni
Submitting fiction in his defense is an interesting ploy. Did he also submit “Moby Dick” or some poetry?
What? Blago didn’t have an internal “investigation”?
With blago’s and zero’s internal investigation the whole mess should be cleared up instantly.
Here is a link to Obama's lawyer Gregory Craig report.Posted on http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2155145/postsThis ThreadA few points:
1) Obama actually authorized Emanuel to talk to Blagojevichabout selecting his successor in the Senate.
2) In November Rham suggested that Valerie Jarrett would be an acceptable candidate.
3) Emanuel had four conversations with Blagojevich's chief of staff John Harris. Who also tried to benefit from helping with this corrupt scheme.
4) He was authorized by Obama to suggest others for the job: Dan Hynes, Tammy Duyckworth, Jan Schakowsky and of course race baiter/poverty pimp Jesse Jackson's son Jesse Jackson Jr. This took four conversations
5) Quoting the report they "discussed the merits of potential candidates and the strategic benefits each would bring to the Senate seat."
I recall that when Obama was first asked about this scandal, he was quoted as saying that "we"...then he changed it to "I"...had no contact with Blagojevich about this.
Good parse 'cause he apparently didn't contact Blagojevich, he had his
lackeyCapo do it.
