You're behind the wheel of a 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger in a Vintage Grand Prix race. You're chasing a Ferrari, hitting speeds up to 160mph. This is NOT a video game! Ten minutes of outstanding arm chair racing. My first vanity, I apologize, but this video was Sofa King cool, I just had to post it! So who do you think wins?
lmao. thanks for that.
Uhhh welll, sorta.
In '70 Mopar offered the "AAR 'Cuda" (not Barracuda) as it's Trans Am model from Plymouth; and the "Challenger T/A" as the Dodge version. AAR stood for Dan Gurney's "All American Racers". Both were offered with only one engine, the 340 six-pack at 290 HP. The Challenger TA was offered again in '71, but with a 340 4bbl.
That Cosby piece was great!
How's this?
I thought in the vintage races, you could run about anything you wanted to. Am I mistaken?
Geez, biff, your batting average is sorta low on this subject.
It most certainly IS a 426 Hemi Challenger.
I invite you to go to glennbunch.com for more info about the car.
Dang It! Now I’ve got to stop FReeping and go get my “Bullit” DVD and watch the chase sceen. Just don’t see how that Stang out did that hemi.
bump
The Satellite was a sport trim option of the Belvedere line, I don't believe it was available in wagons.
But the Hemi sure was, they are rare as hen's teeth and very valuable.
Tracking that car down would be worth your time if it is restorable.
A person 2 years ago said they did not make a 69
Dodge R/T Charger.
I tried to find any information on the web and there
was nothing on the Dodge R/T Charger.
That was why I put LOL on the end.
I thought I had forgotten and called it a Charger when
it was a Challenger.
That photo was like mine except for the color, mine
was yellow and it was a convertible.
The Ferrari, no contest!!
A lot of people poo-poo’ed the AMX but you start with an optional 401 and a light weight car. There were quite a few aftermarket parts available. Add av-gas, a Paxton... Who knows?
Methinks you must own a Italian car! Check the video at minute 5:45...
The quickest by far off the line though was a '32 Ford with a big block Olds engine. Don't remember the particulars but it would pin yer ears back when it took a leap...
Alright allready, so I wuz wrong, sorta. I assumed it was a true vintage racer, not a morphadite. Apparently, the practice in the utube clip was a race at Mid Ohio, a vintage weekend which included non-vintage races. This thing is definitely NOT a vintage race car.
No way I could find it. I’ve been in California for over 40 years and have lost track of that friend many years ago. It was bought in Battle Creek, Mich and was a special order.
Correcto mundo. The Trans Am racers did not like the Challenger due to weight and handling. Cuda, Barracuda, ok so split some hairs. Like I said, Mopar did not build a production engine that was legal for the series, so either 273’s or 340’s were monkeyed with. Chevy, on the other hand, took a 327 block and put a 283 crank in it to come up with the 302, a rather peaky but nice high revver.
This series is what led Chevy to offer the rare 4 wheel disc brake option as well as the 2 four barrel cross ram type intake.
There was also a Mercury Cougar team, using the same powertrain but the car did not have much success.
The sound of that engine is like the sound of a beautiful woman whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
Rowrr!
