The president has had breakfast with Tim Keller (of Redeemer PCA in nyc) and read his book “The Reason for God” a few times. While I agree with the article, there’s no one better than Keller for President Bush to spend time with.
No, he must not be accepting prayers for the hundreds of thousands who have earnestly praised for the pardon of the two imprisoned former border patrol agents.
Leave the man alone!
I strongly disagree.
Bush’s thoughts are profound and liberating. They express the highest sentiments of Christian principal and unlike so many other Christians, he has lived a life which has produced much good fruit.
This nation is addicted to Bush bashing.
Its sad that an allegedly Christian journalist cannot stand up to the angry mob and state the truth about this good man.
How does one gainsay Pres. Bush’s faith? He has expressed more faith, and taken more flak for it, than any president in American history.
A bunch of mush written by an Obama voter that is trying to rationalize his decision. Nothing else.
Belz:
“those who harp on abortion, homosexuality, and marriage have never given thought to issues like poverty and economic justice, to racism and minority rights, to war and international fairness, to healthcare and environmental issues.”
“wouldn’t have passed a basic membership interview in most churches”
Well if he wants to join our church he won’t have to “pass” anything.. If the man says he is a believer then no one I know of on this earth should be judging his walk.. Judge yourself and leave the rest of us alone
Of course he could benefit from an intense study of the Bible. Who couldn’t?
“[Mr. Bush, with respect] . . .wouldn’t have passed a basic membership interview in most churches I know.”
His answers in that interview would have disqualified him from membership in our church, not out of hatred — simply because we believe that the Bible is absolutely true from ‘kiver-t’-kiver . . . includin’ da’ kiver.’
Mr. Bush would be welcome to attend our meetings, and he ought to attend a Bible-believing church (for a change). But actual members of our church must be Bible-believers, and hold it as the absolute Final Authority in matters pertaining to . . . . all matters.
Just a side thought: I wonder when the day will come when people will take churches to court in law suits stating that churches must “provide services” to anyone, and cannot restrict their membership to those in doctrinal agreement.
LOL
Bush could use some disciplined study of reality. (smirk)

**My faith at this point in my life has enabled me to accept people’s prayers and this made a huge difference in my life. **
Two words.
I believe.
Bush is a politician, not a cleric. His theological understanding seems to be on par with typical American layman. So what’s the beef?
Mr. Bush's faith has enabled him to accept people's prayers??!!
Who has been offering prayers up to Mr. Bush, for him to accept?
Regards,
I agree. But he is just like the majority out there attending church every week but being ignorant of scripture. I was the same way for forty years myself. We depend on what our pastor says and just assume that if someone is behind a pulpit or recites the name Jesus that they know what they are talking about. That is far from the truth. The definition of the word Christian can be just about anything nowdays.
