President Bush could use some disciplined study of the Bible

If you didn't wince a bit while President Bush attempted last week on national television, no less to give an account of his Christian faith, well then maybe you too ought to go back and take a refresher course in Christianity 101.

I take seriously the testimony of friends who have worked closely with the president, who speak of the sincerity of his profession of faith in Christ and of his personal commitment to walk in biblical obedience.

But let's face it. Bush, based on what he told the folks on ABC's Nightline, wouldn't have passed a basic membership interview in most churches I know. "What do you think faith gave you that you needed?" the reporter asked. "It gave me strength and strength and understanding. There's love, universal love. My faith at this point in my life has enabled me to accept people's prayers and this made a huge difference in my life. There's a lot of dramatic moments and pressure. There are calm moments. How do you know? It's about prayer. For many people, it's a crutch, but for me it is it's the realization of a power of a universal God, and recognition that this God became manifested in human. And then died for sins."

I agree with your articulate and thorough post.

and yes, there are a few more things to worry about, though I too wish they would get a pardon.

And it happens here too sadly.

talk about a fifth column on Freep...we don’t need the DU to do that, we have our own “pure conservatives” to do that..they are legends in their own minds.

so now YOU have the inside track and can judge -—and you do-—who is saved and who is christian or not?

give it a break. so glad that I am not ‘qualified’ for membership in your church. Yeesh.

You said — “give it a break.”

Well, take a look at who “followed” whom to what thread...

I sure didn’t follow “MHGinTN” around to other threads like he likes to do... :-)

Good FReeper etiquette would be to not “chase” other FReepers around on different threads... LOL...

Your intentions are great but your premise is way off base. I am not questioning his “faith” at all, matter of fact I feel he has tremendous faith. Knowing Bible doctrine is a whole different subject. Saying that someone needs more “learning” of the Bible is not putting them down, if it is the truth. Bush makes statements that show immaturity. That is a fact, better leave it at that.

AMEN. It IS getting rather tiring at this point. He deserves a rest from continual bashing and hatred.

OOHHH, that tells us a lot right there. Christians are supposed to care more about these things than about abortion and gay marriage. Yeah, riiiight.

I heartily agree about the dividing of Israel. Any president who gets that to happen is putting our nation in big trouble with God.

With all he’s had to put up with and he still won’t say a word about it shows me his Christlike qualities.

moron

You probably thought Juan McCain would have made a fine president.

Were you even born yet when Ronald Reagan was president?

What is so hard to understand about being sold down the river by a compromised party and president? Conservatism is now dead as a viable political force in this nation.

It wasn’t the rats that brought this about.

10 years for Ramos and Compean is well beyond the 8th Amendment of “cruel and unusual punishment”.

Exactly. Appropriate punishment for not reporting properly their encounter with the wetback drug runner would have been a few weeks unpaid leave and perhaps a demotion.

Their imprisonment is purely evil.

Just a side thought: I wonder when the day will come when people will take churches to court in law suits stating that churches must “provide services” to anyone, and cannot restrict their membership to those in doctrinal agreement.

Such decisions will lead to two tiers: the large, inclusive, public-approved "churches" (which should be superscribed "Ichabod") and underground "house churches" of two or three families.

Wouldn't be bad for the Faith...really...you would soon know the Real Christians from the veneered masses whose very profession of "faith" violates the Third Commandment.

Bush is a politician, not a cleric. His theological understanding seems to be on par with typical American layman. So what’s the beef?
