Schwarzenegger For President?
AOL Political Machine ^ | December 22, 2008 | Christopher Weber

In a sprawling interview with 60 Minutes last night, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped a not-so-subtle hint to Republicans: get busy changing the Constitution because Ahnold has his eyes on the White House. Asked by Scott Pelley if he'd like to be president, Schwarzenegger responded in no uncertain terms:

"Yeah, absolutely," Schwarzenegger acknowledged. "I think that I am always a person that looks for the next big goal. And I love challenges. I always set goals that are so high, that are almost impossible to achieve. Because then, you're always hungry for climbing and climbing. Because it's always interesting. The climb is always interesting. When you get there you just have to pick another goal."

Schwarzenegger was, of course, not born in the U.S.A. so it would take some rule changing before he's able to launch a presidential bid. I'm sure Californians, myself included, would like to see the governor make good on his campaign promise to chip away at the Golden State's epic budget shortfall before he starts looking for a promotion.

Which only illustrates the fact that party distinctions have become meaningless. The “governing class” folks are like Civil War Re-Enactors: Suit up in blue or suit up in gray, put on a show, make sure nobody gets hurt - and go have a drink.

I voted for state Sen. McClintock as well during the re-call election.

Glad to see he made it to Congress this year. One of the very few bright spots in an otherwise disasterous election year.

Any party that can loft John McCain and get as many votes as it did for doing it, will easily buy into Schwarzenegger’s pipe dreams. And his pipe dreams are California’s nightmares these days.

Schwarzenegger, if you can manage to run, you’ll get plenty of ‘Conservative’ votes. John McCain proved that.

I voted for you originally. You’ll never get another one from me. I gave you a chance and the thanks I got for it was you proving my detractors right.

You’re one of the few people I know Arnie, that could out Davis Gray Davis.

And they think Ears is obviously born in the U.S.A.?

I think that I am always a person that looks for the next big goal. And I love challenges.

Now there's a good reason to jump on the Arnold bandwagon! Let's all help Arnold acheive his next big goal!

By far the best chances of beating the Messiah in 2012. I don't like him, but I want Zero out of office ASAP even more.

Given the current mindset of the American voter, Arnold is the only Federal Government Party politician wearing a Republican lapel pin with any chance of winning the Presidency. Apparently, a lot of Republican officials think that changing the Constitution is easier than reeducating the electorate.

MESSAGE TO SCHWARZENEGGER:

It's easier than you think.

(1) Destroy your original birth certificate (or sink it to the bottom of some Alpine tarn or something).

(2) Declare that you were actually born in the U.S. It doesn't matter where. Try Hawaii.

(3) Publish a certificate of live birth saying that you were born.

That's it! See it's easy.

Couldn’t he just get a forged birth certificate and a team of lawyers to help him qualify?

Not eligible, and as much as I like the guy’s films, and even though I still think he’s better than either Jerry Brown or his former chief of staff, I wouldn’t work to get Article II amended just for him.

Now, Steyn, on the other hand...

Here we go. All we need now are a couple self-styled ‘lifetime Republicans’ to come oozing out of the ‘Rat slime and claim that this is a good idea.
