Can Caroline Kennedy keep the Camelot legend alive?
Telegraph (UK) ^ | 20 Dec 2008 | William Langley

Posted on 12/22/2008 7:09:06 AM PST by IbJensen

For many years, Caroline Kennedy appeared to have an immunity to politics, rare among her family. Why the reluctance? Wasn't the whole point of being a Kennedy to hold some kind of elected office and, anyway, what would happen to all those governorships, congressional seats and Capitol Hill lunch tables if the Kennedys gave up filling them? Caroline, the only surviving child of the late President John F Kennedy, was resolute. Uncomfortable in the public eye, and doubtful of her appetite for the rough and tumble, she preferred the arty, affluent world she could see from the windows of her grand apartment on New York's Park Avenue.

...she apparently felt it was time to meet the sacred obligations of Kennedyism.

Does that mean she's going to chase after women, get drunk, drive erratically and cause people to die?

What “Camelot” legend? It died when JFK died. Everything after that was wreckage, scrap metal and hangers-on.

Putting a Kennedy in charge of anything requiring intellect is like putting Biden at the controls of an F-22.

Disaster is only a button push away.

Maybe she's a little old-fashioned...smuggling illegal substances into the country is also Classic Kennedy (TM).

What BS. The Kennedys only think of Kennedys.

Her marriage is bad and she's bored. That's why she's doing it. There's no altruism here...it's just a lark for a wealthy elite.

This Camelot business was created after JFK died. The reason he was in Dallas to being with was that his Preidency was in deep trouble after the Bay of Pigs, etc. The media manufactured the Camelot business mainly to embarrass LBJ by romanticizing JFK. JFK had his moments (he was pro-life, pro-defense, pro-growth) and ironically, JFK would not survive Iowa in today’s Democratic Party.

Our republic is sick.

We are doing our best to eliminate God from our nation.

Our citizens and the media worship celebrity over ability. Look at the influence of Oprah, the election of Obama, the toleration of election stealing by Franken, and this little manuver to put a Kennedy in office.

For some reason, many people desire a royalty. It explains our fascination with British royalty, (Princess Diana in particular). We are watching the continuation of a psuedo royalty. It makes me sick.

"Can Caroline Kennedy keep the Camelot legend alive?"

Caroline couldn't keep her Chia Pet alive without her aides. The idea that the Kennedys have "sacred obligations" of any sort would only include they self-absorbed quest for power.

Kennedy-ism, like obama-ism, is based on American Idol-like standards of acheivement and have nothing to do with great leadership qualities.

Kennedy was charismatic, but I didn't see any more leadership in him than other Presidents. Like our current "annointed one", he was a darling of the media, and could do no wrong.

I think the "caroline" thing is the left's attempt at getting their own "Palin" in the running. The left is like that - like kids, they love to play "tit for tat".

Meanwhile, caroline is not experienced enough to be Palins receptionist.

How many people know that the whole Camelot image was a fraud. Jackie Kennedy suggested it to Teddy White, AFTER Jack was dead and buried. Camelot is therefore a greater fiction in Washington than in England. In England there is some evidence that King Arthur, at least, may have been real.

What “Camelot” legend? It died when JFK died.

Actually, the Camelot legend only really got going after his death. In fact, the term itself only appears after he died.

Plus the fact that she doesn’t have to campaign for the appointment. How much easier could it get?
