Cinderella vs. the Barracuda
Insight ^ | Dec. 19, '08 | Jonah Goldberg

For people who think there's no cultural divide in the country, consider the treatment of two women much in the news in 2008. The first is Gov. Sarah palin. A woman from very humble roots and with a very blue collar life story. She got involved in the PTA, became mayor, and then rose by dint of her dedication and fearlessness to the job of governor. The full fury of the liberal establishment came down on her with a vengeance usually reserved for klansmen and pedophiles. Then there's Caroline Kennedy, daughter of John F. Kennedy. A multimillionaire from birth, she's spent most of her life on the charity-benefit and cotillion circuit. Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post devoted two columns to this "fairy tale" scenario in which Kennedy, our "tragic national princess" is finally rewarded with the Senate seat once held by her uncle Bobby. What's astounding about Marcus' case is that she really doesn't make one! It's all schoolgirl gushing.

Goldberg also makes this observation: "Palin's selection triggered troughs of bile, vomited up from nearly evey respectable liberal quarter. A congressman, and Obama surrogate, insinuated that Palin was a "Nazi sympathizer" and anti-Semite. She's not, but Caroline Kennedy's grandfather Joe WAS!

The msm continues to ridicule Sarah Palin.

They are relentless in their attacks.

I pray for her and her family. The recent arson at her church is more than a bit worrisome.

People are funny. Children sometimes will rationalize that the suffering of some abuse is preferable to the harangues of a dangerous adult authority figure.

I see the media as that "authority figure," the "popular mind" as that child. The popular mind is in a constant state of longing for the media to pronounce its satisfaction; dread of its dissatisfaction. The popular mind can't resut until the media says it can. And if the popular mind suffers abuse in the process of arriving at the passing of the media's expressions of turmoil, it will endure it.

Until some breaking point...

It's the crowned aristocracy versus the elected citizen government.

Of course the media will scrutinize Rose Kennedy Schlossburg, Caroline's daughter, the same way the Palin kids were./sarc

Caroline Kennedy can pick and choose what she wants because of her name. If she had any character at all, that would be an insult to her. But since she has no character, and is a bored, empty-nest trust fund housewife, she'll get whatever she asks for.

Sarah Palin earned what she got. Huge difference. But Sweet Caroline will never get it.

Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post devoted two columns to this "fairy tale" scenario in which Kennedy, our "tragic national princess" is finally rewarded with the Senate seat once held by her uncle Bobby...Jonah Goldberg

See also, from Mark Steyn:
... "Friends Say Kennedy Has Long Wanted Public Role", Anne Kornblut assured readers in an in-depth Washington Post tongue-bath.

She hasn’t "long wanted" it to the extent of, you know, running for dog catcher in Lackawanna and getting — what’s the word? — "elected", but, if you have a spare Senate seat, she’s graciously indicated that she’d be prepared to consider accepting it...

A perfect example of why the ordinary person of accomplishment won’t consider public office. They won’t put up with the cheap shoots directed at them. Public office is reserved for mediocrities whose only interest is in getting elected, and multimillionaires who want to buy an office.

Don't annoy us further.
We have our work to do

Just think about the average. What use have they for you?

Forget about your silly whim.
It doesn't fit the plan.
