Obama’s New Science Adviser, John Holdren, Wants to Spread the Wealth Around a Little
American Sentinel ^ | 12/19/08 | Paul Zannucci

...Physicist John Holdren, who received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1970, spent his early years working in magnetic fusion energy at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before apparently being hit by a piece of the sky while at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1996, he has spent his time as an activist professor of environmental policy at both UC, Berkely, and Harvard (partially funded by the Teresa and John Heinz Foundation), advocating for radical action against CO2 emissions and calling for a vast redistribution of global wealth.

Posting and running. Hey, it is Friday afternoon, after all.

These people terrify me. The idea of setting a global per capita carbon emission is pure insanity.

I know John Holdren well. He is intelligent, well-educated, and highly accomplished. He is also the ultimate watermelon. He’s constantly talking environmental protection but inside he’s redder than a monkey’s ass. Fans of the late, great Julian Simon will remember Holdren as sharing the losing end of the famous wager Simon made with the neo-Malthusians regarding trends in resource scarcity. It is no surprise that the Bamboozler has welcomed Uncle Ho aboard and it bodes ill for liberty.

No doubt he himself lives a very comfortable lifestyle. It’s the rest of us who are the “problem” as he sees it.

That’s what Obama’s bill for THE GLOBAL POVERTY ACT was all about...not surprising.

Holdren is co-author of some 1970’s books with nutcase Paul Ehrlich, no?

Roque Yam and I may have crossed paths. I too was impressed with Holdren's intelligence and took courses from him. I know the people who hired him, and who were later surprised with his politically doctrinaire leftest positions. He taught a course about the economics of nuclear power, providing what seemed to a naive student like an excellent case for the growth of nuclear power. I was to learn that he was not happy with the conclusions I gleaned from his fact-filled lectures. He hides his agenda as well as Obama.

Then Holdren brought the fraud Amory Lovins to Berkeley, touting Lovin’s non-existent graduate degrees in physics and economics. I subsequently became friends with a graduate of the organized research group, the Energy and Environment Division, who was surprised that I didn't know Holdren was a self-described Marxist.

Look at the accuracy of the predictions of Holdren’t co-author, Paul Erlich, in his famous books including “The Population Bomb.” Facts mean nothing to them. The failure of virtually all of Erlich’s predictions didn't stop the pair, Holdren and Erlich, from publishing an erudite polemic subtly bemoaning the stupidity of society and promoting a decentralized society (but with central control, socialism) which was required reading for years in courses on energy and environment.

I recall the Julian Simon wager, and was amazed to see that the trio, Holdren, Harte, and Erlich, who hedged their bets by spreading the resources they expected to become more expensive over four or five relatively rare minerals, lost on every bet. As someone in the UC Business school explained, “Of course they lost; they don't know anything about economics!”

The positive side from someone who knows Holdren pretty well is that his radical side has been “mellowed” by age (and catsup?) It is revealing that no one was apparently interested in Rich Mueller, who has taught a class at Berkeley about “What Presidents should know about the environment” (or close to that, it is on YouTube).

The menu (in the order presented by Holdren):
Limiting Population
Slowing GDP/Person

Our #2 son, who is in Grad School in Austin, was remarking on this today. The Luddite Greens, and even some of the supposed smart Greens, always seem to start their ideas about 'saving the planet' with limiting population.

It’s just so overbearingly obnoxious to start talking about reducing the human population. Who the hell do these people think they are?

The elites will find ways to exempt themselves, they always have.
