It is worth it to me, not to have Hussein preside over the ceremony.

Even if she consisted of a keel only, there is no way Obama should preside over the commissioning of the USS George H.W. Bush.

Hopefully this is the first of many major engagements where she will emerge victorious.

Thanks to whatever jerk had my original comment removed.

Sorry, as a Navy lifer I put the traditions of the Navy over the wants of the outgoing President Bush. If the ship isn’t ready to turn over to the Navy, then it shouldn’t be commissioned. Plain and simple.

Watch for the USS Obama to be commissioned right after the inauguration. Wonder what it will look like.

This will be the last of the great ships, as the era of human pilots if not draws to a close, then becomes one of 2nd echelon defense. The next generation will probably need to triple its complement of aircraft, though they will be smaller, and drones.

I suspect that there will be a return to air armadas, using thousands, or even tens of thousands, of drone aircraft as inexpensive as a new small car. Carriers may need to launch a half dozen aircraft at a time, entire flights may be expendable, like buzz bombs with GPS guidance.

Lessee...

Carter has a submarine named after him...

Reagan has a carrier...

H.W. Bush has a carrier named after him...

Ford...zero, zip, nada...

Nixon...ditto

Clinton...He may get a torpedo or something...;-)

Who am I missing???

I think I would have liked to have seen a front line ship named after Bob Hope...

I think a few other notible USO entertainers should be considered as well...Just my opinion...

If anything the USS H.W. Bush will outlast me on this earth, and I know it will serve our country well...

It will be funny to speculate if Obama will have anything named after him...

I’m thinking a trash barge or something...

Zero will probably demand copies of every classified document relating to the Bush be on his desk by 4PM, JAN20 and by 8AM the next morning those docs will be in Moscow,
Beijing, Tehran, Pyongyang, Damascus and Timbuktu.
