ROGERS, Ark. – An Arkansas woman has given birth to her 18th child.

Michelle Duggar delivered the baby girl by Caesarean section Thursday at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. The baby, named Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar, weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

"The ultimate Christmas gift from God," said Jim Bob Duggar, the father of the 18 children. "She's just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters."

The Duggars now have 10 sons and eight daughters.

Jim Bob Duggar said Michelle started having contractions Wednesday night. She needed the C-section, her third, because the baby was transverse. Jim Bob said both baby and mother were doing well Thursday night.

"We both would love to have more," he said.

Jim Bob Duggar is 43, a year older than his wife. Their oldest child, Joshua, is 20.

The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jordyn-Grace, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 17; Jessa, 16; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 12; Joy-Anna, 11; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 8; James, 7; Justin, 6; Jackson, 4; Johannah, 3; and Jennifer, 1.

"Our whole family is excited about Jordyn's addition to our family," Jim Bob Duggar said. "She's just perfect in every way."

I would hope they would switch chores every so often. There was one show..when they were in NYC. The little one, about two was acting up. I was thinking “uh huh. This one is going to be yalls challenge”. At 20 you have lots of energy. By 40, well it’s easier to let some stuff slide and the baby tends to get away with more.

My guess is that this family has no credit card debt, the father doesn't “flip houses’ as a way of supporting his family, the father has never cheated on his wife, they've been married only once, the believe in God, pay their taxes, and probably spend a good deal of time helping other people who are in need. They are likely;y to be a happy group where the children are not indulged with ‘things,’ always have someone there at home when they come home from school (although they're probably home schooled), are likely to be pretty smart, independent-minded and courteous. Now compare them to the average family with 1.75 children.

Congratulations to the mighty Duggar Family of Arkansas! What a wonderful Christmas blessing you have received. I guess you’ll have lots of expert help at this point.

DUers calling for a “child tax” and government population control for “fundies.” Such champions of liberty those liberals.

And yet they'd champion the never-married, minority mom of ten kids by ten different sperm donors, as proof of the need for more welfare and other government charity.

I find the J business weird, too, but it’s been trendy for many years. Most families just have fewer. I knew a family with 10 children in Tennesee in which 8 of the children, I think, had the initials M.A.M.

LOL! After observing that every large family has one child who turns out totally opposite of what the parents would hope, Xenalyte and I both figured it would Jinger-rhymes-with-Ringer, getting even.

I do all the laundry for my family (with only one washer!). I won’t let anyone else near my machines!

My 12-year-old son says he wants at least 10. And lots more reptiles.

Remember President Johnson? They all had to be LBJ ... I thought it was weird.

At 4, my daughter was upset because she couldn’t find any boys that she would want to be married to. She thought she had to have them picked out by then.

You’re right - I hadn’t thought of that. President Johnson was a very strange man in a lot of ways.

After many, many years of odd ball, mismatched (yet functional) washer dryer sets I finally had both go to appliance heaven at the same time and I got a MATCHING set!!! Oh happy day for me...same color, same size, and they sit side by side just like the good folks at GE planned. (I still covet those waaay cool front loaders...but I think lottery winning would have to occur to get those...Sears has them in great colors like red and blue...but I digress).

Since I got the new set...I am the laundry nazi...’How many pairs of jeans you putting in there?; ‘did you check all pockets?’; and my favorite ‘who can’t clean the lint screen...’. Like that Kyra Sedgwick closer person I track down the laundry perps...

But are you sure its not pronounced ‘Ginger?’ Because if it trully rhythms w/’ringer’ then I think that girl should be lawyering up.

Initials were the least of the oddities of Johnson. He makes Clinton appear statesmanlike.

Mrs. Johnson was very nice, though.

My 1995 washer and dryer both starting having serious problems last fall. After several visits from a nice Polish man who replaced this-and-that didn’t resolve the issues, I bought a front-loader and a high-capacity dryer at the Best Buy clearance after Christmas last December. White - I don’t pay extra for colors! I love them, especially the lower water usage.

Oh, and I’m sure it is “Ginger,” two soft g’s, but that’s hardly a name to stick a girl with, either.

I’m married to a “fix it “. I wouldn’t know what to do with new appliances. My dishwasher is over 15 years old. I thought it had died and was going to buy one of those new drawer types. He fixed it though :’)

Yes...Lady Bird put up with a lot (and it was her family fortune that made LBJ). Everytime I see bluebonnets, I think of Lady Bird and her highway beautification program :)

The story is that LBJ asked the richest girl in town to marry him, whatever town he lived in, and finally got one plain enough to accept him. Very decent woman, though, and the roads in Texas are beautiful. When we lived there, I loved to drive out east or west from the city to see the flowers. We have some great photos of Anoreth in fields of bluebonnets, too.

The Duggars appear to be handling their large brood very well, but I expect things will get more interesting as the kids get older. I suspect at least one of the kids will rebel, probably one of girls. She’ll probably want to get away from the endless housework and baby-minding, get some stylish clothes, and maybe want to date some guy that Mom and Dad don’t appprove of. We’ll see.
