SPRINGFIELD, Ill. A lawyer for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich told state lawmakers Thursday that the federal wiretaps at the heart of the pay-to-play allegations against his client were illegally obtained, and therefore should be kept out of any impeachment proceedings. The wiretaps are crucial to the federal charges filed against Blagojevich last week. Prosecutors say they caught the Democratic governor discussing efforts to auction off Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat and pressure a hospital executive for campaign donations.
Genson told the impeachment committee that it shouldn't consider any material from the wiretaps, saying the evidence was "illegally obtained."

Technically the seat was never sold.
This could get very interesting.
Very good, can you or someone photoshop some buses into the talons of the Eagle?
This Genson fellow is a hoot. He really thinks that the impeachment must follow the same rules as a court proceding.
The only thing that matters is that the DEMS want Blago out of office. They don’t really care about corruption or whether or not he is convicted. They just need him out-of-the-way for their dear leader’s PR.
But the seat was never sold.
It's 'Blagojevich', not 'Blagojavich'. Doesn't count. Investigation over.
Worth a shot...
Hey, he’s a defense attorney, that’s what he’s paid to do. Remember this guy represented R. Kelly.
I read a description of the process the US Attorney used to get approval for these wiretaps and it seems absolutely solid. They were most likely approved by the US AG himself due to the nature of the target.
Well, from what I'm getting elsewhere, he has "ties". I wouldn't expect someone with "ties" to be the most up-to-date on impeachment regulation...
Wouldn’t that be funny...case tossed because they spelled his name wrong....stranger things have happened.
Well a lawyer said it so it must be true.
I bet those wiretaps hold up just fine. This is lawyer bluster and bamboozle them with BS time.
“Well yes, but dont they have to prove the evidence was illegally obtained?”
Says who? Impeachment isn’t a court proceding. It is closer to a congressional investigation. And, in a state that has never had an impeachment, my guess is that they’ll make the rules as they go.
Doesn’t matter, conspiring to commit a crime is just as illegal as committing the crime itself.
FBI often acts in a similar manner when they have sufficient evidence, for example that a murder is being planned. They often have to make a judgment call to proceed with charging a person with conspiracy rather than letting things progress and risk the actual crime take place.
Can't we just make all of this go away. After all we have a country to govern and it is in serious trouble. We just don't need all of these distractions. All of this is in the past and we need to concentrate on the future./s
From `Liar, Liar’, the movie
Fletcher: Your honor, I object!
Judge: Why?
Fletcher: Because it’s devastating to my case!
Judge: Overruled.
Fletcher: Good call!
So just how great a shock would it be for a leftist thug politician to beat the rap?
So can’t someone say “I object”
I know it’s not a trial, but still, you would think truth would be a requirement. Oh wait, as you point out, it’s mobsterville Chicago we are talking about.
