It may be that neither President-elect Barack Obama nor anyone else on his staff has anything to hide regarding the pay-to-play scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Then, by all means, Obama and his team should stop acting as if they do have something to hide.
The loudest voices in politics and the media are coming from the critics and the cheerleaders. One camp is sure that Obama and his inner circle are guilty by association, and the other is sure they're totally innocent...
The sloppy way the Obama transition team has handled things isn't building credibility with anyone but a docile press corps.
Columnists, news anchors and liberal pundits assure us that just because Blagojevich has been charged with intent to sell Obama's Senate seat doesn't mean that Obama or his advisers were in the market to buy.
Even the statement issued this week by the transition team sounded Clintonesque, which is no surprise since Obama has so many ex-Clinton staffers on the payroll.
Any discussions between members of the president-elect's staff and Blagojevich or any member of the governor's staff were in no way "inappropriate," according to the statement.
Obama used the same wording in his comments to the media this week, insisting that "nothing that my office did ... was in any way inappropriate or related to the charges that have been brought."
Who decides what is inappropriate?

Man I despise this “pay-to-play” platitude. Why can’t they just call it what it is - graft?
See: “Bear, woods; Pope, Catholic”
Good ol’ fashioned bribery.
Whats odd to me....is that these are talks that you’d do face to face to avoid telephone wiretaps. Its almost like Blaggo knew that they were tapped and had these idiots calling him on purpose. The professionalism here....the ability to conduct stupid business without being caught....draws me to a conclusion that these people really don’t know how to conduct themselves. This is stuff I’d expect out of Little Rock or Memphis...with county or small city dimwits....not a governor of Illinois or presidential spokesmen.
The other curious thing is that Obama had “HIS” list of people that could replace him and this was strongly emphasized to Blago. These Obama guys didn’t want anyone else other than the five. It didn’t take Blago more than ten seconds to realize that this wasn’t a suggestive list....it was a demanding list.
NOT FAIR!!!!
(I was going to make the same point!!)
0be’s getting stonewalling experience while he’s still in the on-deck circle. It’ll come in handy later.
We’re only a month away from the start of the Obinton Administration.
Not a polar bear!
Would it be inappropriate for Obama or someone from his team to offer opinions as to who should replace him if there was no quid pro quo?

Personally, I find this a tad unseemly. The Senate seat doesn't belong to Obama, who was barely in it long enough to warm it, but to the people of Illinois.Yeah, in theroy.
Now my memory is a little hazy, but I seem to recall our forefathers raised a little stink over things like that going on here in America. It was around 1776 iirc.
“docile” press corps??? I would say “compliant” or sycophantic, myself.
Crooks (big and small) get careless when they think they are
‘THE UNTOUCHABLES’.
Things are getting so out of hand-—Maybe we need naming rights to Senate seats much like the (largely) publically financed stadia.
His whole life is one big hide.
