The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George W. Bush has a broken arm and ribs after being struck by Iraqi security agents, his brother told AFP on Tuesday.
Durgham Zaidi was unable to say whether his brother Muntazer had sustained the injuries while being overpowered during Sunday's protest against Bush's visit or while in custody later.
He said he had been told that his brother was being held by Iraqi forces in the heavily fortified Green Zone compound in central Baghdad where the US embassy and most government offices are housed.
"He has got a broken arm and ribs, and cuts to his eye and arm," said Durgham.
An AFP journalist said that cuts were visible on his face as he was led away into custody.

Dana Perino, Bush’s spokesperson was also injured.
Perino bruised in shoe-hurling melee

“White House Press Secretary Dana Perino was slightly bruised in the aftermath of the shoe-throwing melee at President Bush’s news conference at the Prime Minister’s Palace in Baghdad on Sunday, a senior administration official said.
Perino was hit in the face with a microphone as security wrestled with the reporter, NBC News reported.”
Things happened fast, the main objective was to subdue the shoe-thrower and he wasn’t going quietly or obediently.
He is lucky he don’t have a snapped neck. Oh well, time will tell...
If you throw something at a visiting head of state IN ANY COUNTRY, you should expect some injuries. Saddam would have killed him (after he was tortured).
In the meantime, some anti-US elements are spreading lies and are blaming the US.

As long as his head is still attached to his shoulders I’d say he’s doing great.
He should be happy. It appears the insult he delivered to the prez is a LOT worse than that. I'm sure W is hurting MUCH more from the insult. /s
What a cave man.
If he did that to Saddam, he would still be alive right now—but REALLY wishing for death. He should be considering himself fortunate to only have a few broken bones.
His fastball was junk. No biggie.
If the ‘Devil Him/Herself’ were standing next to Saddam and ANYONE threw anything in the direction of the ‘Great One’, (No matter who was standing in the area) you can picture SH drawing a weapon and placing one betwixt the eyes of the hurler, and probably a few on either side of him/her for allowing it to happen....
The guy is lucky....

His fastball may have been junk but he was in the strike zone both times. I give him a pretty good scouting report. His equipment could have been better too, those shoes he was throwing what were they? Hush Puppies are what I throw, better balance and weight.
I guess the shoe-tosser and his brother forgot for a minute how the IA and IPs handle problems. This is posturing at its most Arab. No sympathy here.
It surprises me that a bullet was not in his forehead before the second shoe was in the air.
He probably FELL DOWN and them shoes? Probably more like stinky sandles made from some old tires. Bet this looooser was even wearing BLACK SOCKS with those sandles...
We are living in a sitcome...so says Rush.
I saw the tape of the take down.
I suspect that most of the injuries were when he got tackled directly after his assault on the president.
With the sloppy security, Bush and everyone in the room is damn lucky the sonuvabitch was throwing shoes and not grenades.
Say, that's an interesting point!
Inquiring minds want to know...
10 Years ago his brother would have found him at his front door in a small bag.
