Michelle Obama vs. Laura Bush
The American Chronicle ^ | December 13, 2008 | Jeff Rivera

One highlight of the Bush Administration has been that the first lady, Laura Bush has made literacy a pivotal part of her work with the American people. There are a lot of areas of interest that a first lady can use her power and influence to draw attention to but will Michelle Obama also make literacy an important part of her agenda?

With literacy rates on the decline, and educational facilities being last on the list of priorities for many government agencies, Michelle Obama has unique opportunity to use her influence to turn the state of literacy around in the country.

One such website that has made literacy an importance is the new Bootleg Books website Bootleg Books which promises to give readers an opportunity to take a sneak peek into books months before they even hit the book shelves. It is offering free membership to the first 500 people who sign up and contrary to its name, each of these books are authorized by the major publishers that release them.

Laura Bush is Honorary Ambassador for the United Nations Literacy Decade and seems to continue to make it her agenda to further education and literacy, even after President George W. Bush leaves office. Will Michelle Obama pick up the torch? She has made a heavy effort to work with the Adult Literacy League and she has made her children's education the priority for her and Barack Obama. Yet, time will tell.

One thing about Laura Bush, she didn’t cop an attitude unlike Hilliary or the incoming Michelle Obama. At least Rosalyn Carter was low key as well.

Michelle could do the black community a great service by speaking out as much as possible for black kids to stay in school and excel. Black kids have a problem within their own community of others making fun of kids who truly want to be educated. Here’s hoping that the Obamas will dispel the nation that education is a ‘white thing’.

Michelle will use her children as props to promote the things she really cares about: promotion of women, specifically black women, to places of power where they can strike back at white men.

If Michelle (My Gal) and “O” can lower the drop-out rate amongst blacks and reduce black teen pregnancy, I will give them high praise.

The O’s reduce teen pregnancy by promoting abortion.

The very thought of abstinence is treated as a personal affront to them and their kind.

Having zero expectations of this vile power hungry couple I will not watch nor pay attention to the media fawning over them. They are but an anomaly in a Country that has lost its way through power obtained under false pretenses via greed and corruption. The time for the Dutch saying: “New brooms clean best” has arrived.
