This outburst is very unusual because he used a definite near-term time period. Normally he promises doom at some unspecified point many years from now.

Up until now Al has never gone out on a limb like this. I'm thinking that the stubborn refusal of the earth's climate to do what he insists that it will has been gradually unhinging him. Al's mental state is deteriorating rapidly.

This lasted several hundred years and the ice caps did not melt. In fact man flourished during this period. There was farming in Greenland!
