A source said today that Gov. Rod Blagojevich was taken into federal custody at his North Side home this morning. The U.S. attorney's office would not confirm the information, and a spokesman for the governor did not immediately return a phone call for comment.

My apologies for breaking TAPPED’s family blog policy [Eds. Note—In the immortal words of Sam Rosenfeld, “TAPPED is a family blog.”] but the following excerpt from the criminal complaint against Rod Blagojevich is really too good to censor. In the midst of trying to auction off Obama’s former senate seat either for a high paying job in the SEIU-affiliated Change To Win organization, a cabinet appointment in the Obama administration, or simply for financial benefits, Blagojevich apparently became frustrated with Obama’s refusal to play ball in order to secure the seat for Obama’s preferred candidate (identified in the complaint as Candidate 1.) From page 63-64 of the complaint:
ROD BLAGOJEVICH said that the consultants (Advisor B and another consultant are believed to be on the call at that time) are telling him that he has to “suck it up” for two years and do nothing and give this “motherf***** [the President-elect] his senator. F*** him. For nothing? F*** him.” ROD BLAGOJEVICH states that he will put [Senate Candidate 4]” in the Senate “before I just give f***ing [Senate Candidate 1] a f***ing Senate seat and I don’t get anything.”
Conservatives hoping that Obama himself was caught up in Blagojevich's corruption may end up being just as disappointed.

I'm not that familiar with Illinois pols, but I have heard of Tammy Duckworth. It was reported that Senate Candidate #1 was SantaBama's preferred candidate. How close are Bambi and Duckworth?

EXCLUSIVE:
A former Illinois bank official, now claiming whistleblower status, says bank officials replaced a loan reappraisal that he prepared for a Chicago property that was purchased by the wife of now-convicted felon Tony Rezko, part of which was later sold to next-door neighbor Barack Obama.
In a complaint filed Thursday in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Kenneth J. Connor said that his reappraisal of Rita Rezko’s property was replaced with a higher one and that he was fired when he questioned the document.
Mr. Connor, a real estate and commercial credit analyst at the Mutual Bank Corp. in Chicago, also noted in the complaint that the bank received a grand jury subpoena in October 2006 requiring it to produce information concerning Mrs. Rezko’s purchase, including the bank’s files on the property.
If they hadn't fielded such a weak candidate, Obama would not have won and this would have never happen.
