WASHINGTON -- Plan on taking Metrorail to the inaugural ceremonies on Jan. 20? Be ready to hit the stairs.
The transit agency says it expects to shut down and lock numerous escalators at high volume stations on the day of the inauguration. ..................... Metrorail is preparing to carry upwards of 1 million riders on inauguration day, a mark that will easily shatter the all time record high of 854,638 riders set this past summer.

Questions keep coming up about how visitors can connect with Metrorail to come into DC for the inauguration and inaugural parade.
The powers that be continue to talk about the possibility of upwards of 5 million people showing up. Notice that Metro's record is short of carrying 1 million on a single day.
This article may be of interest to those Freepers, or their family members, or friends, who actually want to come here in January to "see" this event.
I live here within walking distance of a Metrorail station. I'm watching it on TV!

I think the best bet is to catch the Metro to a station about a mile or two away and hoof it from there. If you try to get off at L’Efant Plaza or Smithsonian, you probably will not be able to get out of the train.

I live in Huntsville, AL. North Central Alabama. Population of the Metro area around 350K.
A friend told me last week that many of the black churches are planning bus caravans to the event. I imagine the same is true across the south. BTW, my friend has no desire to go and thinks the whole thing rather stupid.

I have no desire to watch that on TV, much less travel there to see the crowning of The One.

I’ve heard USA Network is having an NCIS Marathon that day. I’m stocking up on popcorn.

I was sort of thinking of going, but then I got a brilliant idea and decided to go to Vegas instead, spend my money there, before the Libs take it all.

Rode’em off and on for many years. I regularly used the Rosslyn Station escalators. ONLY one time did I ever have to walk down.

Slightly less than normal. From what my friend said, I suspect as many as 500 members of the black churchs may be going.
BTW, don’t expect to see me in DC.

The escalator at Rosslyn is the steepest one I've ever been on. They expect people to walk the stairs there?

Gee, you’re a bit late. I usually change over to winter air in my tires just before Thanksgiving. I like to be prepared for the first snow.
