US President-elect Barack Obama said today he was prepared to offer Iran economic incentives to stop its nuclear program, but he also warned that sanctions could be toughened if it refused.
"We are willing to talk to them directly and give them a clear choice and ultimately let them make a determination in terms of whether they want to do this the hard way or the easy way," Mr Obama told NBC's Meet the Press program.
Dealing with Iran's uranium enrichment program, which some Western countries say is being used to develop a nuclear bomb, will be one of the first foreign policy tests for Mr Obama after he takes office on Jan. 20.
Iran last month signaled it was expanding its nuclear enrichment program, a clear sign that it has no intention of bowing to Western pressure. Tehran says the program is purely for peaceful purposes to generate more electricity.
Iran said last week it did not believe US policy would change under Mr Obama. Washington, which cut ties with Tehran after the 1979 revolution that ousted the U.S.-backed shah, has been pushing hard to isolate Iran over its nuclear program.

I think he’d get a deal if he just threw in some celery too. You know, the fancy kind with the ends cut at an angle.
A carrot stick disguised as a missile aimed at their nuclear site??????
Obama’s coming, I’m scared I’m scared. Those Iranians must be pooping in their pants right now. The messiah is coming. Yep, we got Carter, thanks a lot drones, it’s gonna be 4 years of jimmy Carter, but of course that is what they wanted, liberals adore Carter, now they got him in Obama form
How’d that work out with Kim Jong Ill?
Do this the hard way or the easy way? Now where have I heard that before?
Oh yeah, on about a GAZILLION movies and TV shows.
In real life has it ever worked on an insane person? Ever?
OTOH, in real life, has any sane and mature adult ever actually tried using it?
For the record, I am laughing Barack Obama to scorn.
This is the answer to our economic problems, it shows that blackmail obviously works.
All of America now only needs to blackmail each other!
i predict more sanctions and a new version of Oil For Food where Europe is bought off by the mullahs. This will come to light in about 10 years when we are back in office and clean up Obama’s mess. Somehow it won’t be news the second time, either.
I am still shocked that the President nor anyone else ever discussed the impact of Oil for Food.
Ia Obambi really the President Elect or is he when the Electoral votes?
A carrot stick, uh?
Why does a picture of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd come to mind?
The Iranians will jam that carrot up his nose and break the stick off in his a$$, then send him home on a bus.
FUBAR indeed.
Followed by some help from Israel too.
Along with a glob of ranch dressing?
That photo of Chamberlain, with Obama’s face, holding up the agreement with Hitler... sometimes nothing else will do.

I think the problem is that there is more than one nuclear site, and we don’t know exactly where they are. I think some of them are also located underground, where it would be difficult to blow them up. I have no doubt that GWB would have taken care of Iran’s nuclear ambitions if it was as easy as just attacking a site.
With the numerous nuclear sites the only way to destroy their nuclear ambitions would be to blow up the whole country. Might not be a bad idea, but if GW doesn’t have the balls to do it, BO certainly won’t.
Well I feel “The O” will do a Chamberlain on us ....
