The economic recession will get significantly worse before it starts to improve, President-elect Barack Obama said in an interview broadcast Sunday, seeking to tamp down expectations that have risen as he prepares to assume the presidency in 44 days.

“If you look at the unemployment numbers ... the fragility of the financial system and the fact that it’s an international system,” the recession “is a big problem, and it’s going to get worse,” Obama told NBC News’ Tom Brokaw on Saturday. The interview aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Acknowledging that his agenda had changed sharply just in the month since he was elected, Obama said passing a short-term economic stimulus package was now his top priority.

If Obama’s highest priority is a short term stimulus package, why is he supporting infrastructure as the stimulus? Infrastructure spending takes years to have an effect. Oh, I know. Infrastructure spending must be done on ‘prevailing wage’, ie, union scale contracts. The unions love infrastructure.

And he has a plan to make it even worse. His spending plan will send this country into default. Most people know that when you have less money coming in than you have going out that the only rational way to fix that problem is to cut expenses. Instead he is going to try to continue at hyper speed the process began by Bush and Paulson. He is going to run this country into the ground in only the way a true socialist can. Well he is going to find opposition like no other when he tries to nationalize health care, when he tries to spend trillions more and raises taxes on the very businesses that are hurting so he can transfer private sector jobs to the government sector. That is what his scheme is about, it is about making everyone more dependent on him.

Just setting expectations... that’s all. It’s a win-win for him.

“Acknowledging that his agenda had changed”

He's a 4 year idiot then someone else will up his “hope and change” agenda. The candidate can see his change and raise him double change then get elected.

Now wait one minute? So, Obama isn't the Messiah and he can't snap his fingers in order for a situation to take place at a moments notice?

But why not? He is the one who will bring change.

Unfortunately, the only change we'll see will be continued lay offs and downsizing due to the fact companies are preparing for Obama’s tax increases.

Hey lefties who can't stay away from Free Republic, you got what you wanted. Now take notes and remember what we warned everyone about because those very issues are already taking place, and Obama hasn't taken the oath on the Bible(?) yet.

Once again lefties, I would like to personally thank you for putting us in a situation that will take years to clean up once the American people wake up and the kool aid wears off.

Dick Morris was right - the Presidency wasn’t worth winning this election cycle.

......why is he supporting infrastructure ....

The real answer is that he has no answer. Most people can’t pronounce infrastucture that has four syllables. A big word thrown around sounds like action.

His only defense is “Bush’s fault”. That will wear thin when there is no success in the rust belt
