In between the tree trimming and gift-giving, President-elect Barack Obama is inviting Americans to spend part of the holiday season talking about health care -- and report back to him.
As he gears up for major health reform legislation next year, Obama is encouraging average Americans to host informal gatherings to brainstorm about how to improve the U.S. system.
The sessions, which could take place at a party, over a Menorah-lighting or at the annual Christmas cookie bake-off, are to be held Dec. 15 to Dec. 31. Former senator Thomas A. Daschle, Obama's point person on health, will attend at least one and prepare a detailed report, complete with video, to present to the next president.
In addition to the house parties, Obama's transition Web site, Change.gov, is collecting thousands of comments on health-care reform.

“Repeal the 1973 bill, authored by Ted Kennedy, which created HMOs. Let the free market be free.”
I didn’t know Kennedy authored that bill.
I completely agree with you.
I kinda agree...every single American should demonstrate proof of citizenship by providing their birth certificate to a county office where they are registered. If you can’t show citizenship...you shouldn’t get any healthcare via this program or run for the presidency.
Our founding fathers cried out, “millions by charity, not one penny by tribute”.
How about using that idea to fix our health care. I will give to the Red Cross or an organization who would help people pay their Insurance. But I am dead set against setting up a Government run health care system. The Government will bankrupt the system in no time and it will become stagnant because of the lack of competition.
What I want the guvment to do is allow us to give from my heart, and stop reaching in my pockets. My pockets below to me. The guvment already thinks that my pockets belong to them. Besides, there are plenty of people from hollywood who should be happy to give to such a great cause. Maybe they could even go hold a concert and raise some money for the uninsured.
I went to Obama’s web site. I could not find a button to click on for making comments in the pages desiganeted health care reform. I left a message elsewhere, however, and mentioned both health care and education. I pretty much just told them they need to butt-out of both, and leave us alone.
It's a quagmire!
It’s really simple.
Just extend COBRA rights from 18 months to indefinite.
Resign. Now.
1. I don’t want to work 2. I want highly trained professionals who have spent half their lives learning to be doctors to work 60 hours a week for nothing 3. I want to highest quality, risk free, state of the art medical care for free.
I have no problem with providing a basic, repeat, basic healthcare level to the nations indigent and welfare hoards. What I object to is providing a premium healthcare plan to them. In New York, like other liberal states, the welfare hoards can obtain cosmetic surgery (boob-jobs, liposuction and such) and many elective procedures. Why? Retail sales clerks working their butts off for 8 and 10 dollars an hour don’t get this. Most of them have a hard time financially if they even come down with a simple cold or sore throat, or break a bone.
I don’t begrudge anyone their health, I do object to the frivolous add-ons that are there that are bankrupting us. Why should anyone who works and earns pay for someone elses healthare at a level they can’t afford themselves?
FREE BEER FOR EVERYONE!!!
Obama in charge of anything will ruin this country
I thought I was the only one who felt that way, unkus. I don’t even know why they bother to interview conservatives on TV news anymore. We can talk all we want...but we’re only talking to ourselves now. The libs own it all - education, media, judiciary, congress, White House, etc.
“Very good ideas.....I’d add stopping gubmint mandated insurance coverage, such as males being forced to purchase insurance to cover pregnancy.”

Thanks.
The whole concept of shared risk is unfair to the majority of policy holders. The health care costs of the overeating, non-exercising 300 lb hypertensive, diabetic are borne by all the members of his “group”. Much more individaul assessment of risk and consequent adjustment in PERSONAL out-of-pocket premiums would be more fair.
My list was just off the top of my head; it wasn’t in any particular order. I agree that tort reform is of fundamental importance, and not just in the area of healthcare.
Works for me. My greatest dream is that the government on all levels would get the hell out of our medical care system.
Absolutely amazing. HE has no plan, so he has to query the GENPO for ideas.
Mindless simp.
Legal Reform = Health Care Reform
Boy, you said a mouthful there!
I'm 45. I work hard to keep my weight in check, along with my BP and cholesterol because I'm a pilot and I want to keep flying as long as possible. Both my siblings are 300+ pounders and I could easily be that heavy, too, if I didn't take active measures to keep myself in shape. It absolutely frosts me that I have to "share" in the health care costs of people who think sugar is one of the four food groups. You can't go to a grocery store these days without seeing a parade of "widettes" pushing around a cart full of sodas, cupcakes, potato chips and other empty calorie junk food.
I'm certainly not in favor of, or in any way calling for "food police". However, if we don't get a handle on this obesity issue and soon, in a few years we're going to look back and realize that the cost of health care now is dirt cheap. Grouping obese people together and letting them share the elevated costs of their health care, caused primarily by by their voluntary fork-in-mouth disease, would be a great place to start, IMHO.
Give it back to the people....tort reform...HSA’s ...all basic “common sense” to a mind uncorrupted by the Ivy League.....
