Palin proposes new funds to benefit children
Anchorage Daily News ^ | December 5, 2008 | Sean Cockerham

Gov. Sarah Palin is calling for more state spending on children's health insurance, preschool and other programs, even as Alaska oil prices and state revenues plunge.

Cash flow into the state is shrinking as oil prices drop below $40 a barrel, the lowest level in nearly four years. Most state general fund money comes from taxes and royalties the state makes from oil. But Palin said the state can afford more than $5 million in new spending on areas like Head Start, obesity prevention, a test program of half-day preschool, and expanded Denali KidCare insurance.

Why, because of this, because of something that she has tried twice to do. Anyone can look into her record and see that she has already tried doing this twice, this isn’t anything new. If this were something new, out of nowhere I can maybe understand, but she has tried this twice already, this is already common knowledge to anyone that would look at her record

Yes it is insane to talk about 2012 in 2008 however we are just having an academic discussion and that is all.

I do not have a problem of what she is proposing for Alaska. I simply think that she is not electable despite that the base greatly supporst her and loves her.

I second that.

And its also amazing how certain “conservatives” here are so quick to throw her under the bus. Lets not forget that as a social conservative she will look for the weakest and most vulnerable among us. And that means kids. She is a staunch pro-lifer, and this is but an extension of her values.

But what is pissing me off on this thread are all these people that are throwing her under the bus. Typical firing squad mentality that some conservatives seem to have.

Like Arnold Schwartzenfrauder, some of us don't like to see someone prancing around "acting" like a conservative in a "bait and switch" routine!!! None of this has ever been highlighted. It's really been softpeddled to where I don't think even Rush has seen THIS coming from her!!!

5 million is awfully small change in the state budget scheme of things, even for a state as sparse as Alaska. In practical terms this is a minor photo op with children in the background.

For perspective, about 6 weeks ago Palin was talking about 40,000 million in new federal spending to expand the babysitting of retarded children.

Yeah and what is hilarious is that I don’t see what the big freakin deal is, she wants to help kids, yeah, so, what should she do, not give a damn about them. She is pro life, she cares about children, she cares about their health care, I am all for that, head start, those are all very useful programs and are obvious needed

Maybe people are starting to understand what Sara is (hint - sounds like RINO).

It’s not just adding more welfare programs when the income to the STate is falling - badly.

Its about a pattern of spending.

Oh, and a total lack of leadership on anything on growing State income.

NOw, if she cans Tom Irwin and MArty R, approves some ice roads and gets in gear, folks may start to believe she has the States intetest at heart

And not political ambition.

The incredible severe attacks on President Bush and the Republican Party by many conservatives since 2005 were a major cause for the Republican defeats in 2006 and 2008. Of course these conservatives will say that President Bush and the Republicans betrayed them but none the less they have savagely attacked President Bush and the Republicans and were a major cause for the 2006 and 2008 defeats.

Her state is not suffering, her state has plenty of money that is why she is doing this..and this is nothing new from her, she has tried this twice, this didn’t come out of the blue. Perhaps people should do some research and see that she has attempted this twice before they bag on her

Lessee... State is still running well in the black. Some program gets a measly five million more... And so-called “conservatives” jump ship as quick as they can.

Just like the “conservatives” that supported W until there was some hint of opposition. Fairweather friends, all.

I was merely mocking the attitude of many posters. Relax.

It is way too early to be talking about 2012. Many states are going to have to tackle tough budget problems (AK, LA, FL, and SC included). How Jindal, Palin, Sanford, or Crist handle these budget problems will make or break their Presidential aspirations. The problem with the GOP is not that its too conservative or less conservative. Its the image of the GOP being a country club for rural evangelicals who care only about gay marriage. Palin, Crist, Sanford, and Jindal have opportunites to show the world how competent they are with fiscal matters. If they are successful, then their stock for the GOP Presidential nomination will go up. We need people who are competent, problem solvers.

Palin, Sanford, Crist, and Jindal will encounter opposition on this site. Some posters will say Jindal is a Muslim anchor baby. Others will say Sanford’s endorsement of McCain back in 2000 disqualifies him. Palin is bad because her daughter had premaritial sex. For Crist despite scoring a grade of A on govt spending from the CATO institute, many Freepers dislike Crist for being an alleged homosexual. Many posters here are expecting the candidate of their dreams.

Also I think it is kinda insane to say that ANYONE is the next Reagan, there is only ONE Ronald Reagan, that is setting the bar on someone way too high. Ronald Reagan was perhaps our best President, came in after a horrible Carter Administration and fixed everything, took him some time but the job was done. Saying that someone is the next Reagan is kinda insulting to Reagan himself, there is only ONE Reagan

Which is to say she's a Christian socialist. Conservatives who believe in limited government and fiscal responsibility don't need quotes around our ideology.

Don’t let them discourage you. They were NEVER Sarah supporters to begin with. They are likely: Jindal supporters or Romney voters.
