American Children Are Being Brainwashed By TextbooksThe remedy for this is fairly simple. Parents who actually have brains should challenge their kids to go direct to the primary source, i.e., for American history and government, read Washington's speeches, The Federalist Papers, de Tocqueville, the Declaration and the Constitution, etc.
Public school textbooks are (by and large) crap. Always verify the facts with primary sources, consider things from different viewpoints, and understand rhetoric, logic, and the English language.

You know, we're looking at this in a profoundly negative light... we should concentrate on the good here:
American School-children can read!!

i dont know if any FReepers are familiar with a man named KENT HOVIND. He teaches creation now in prison for a crap charge for tax evasion. anyways he says there is a passage in the BIBLE where it states that satan will use textbooks to sway children from God. if anyone can find the exact passage will be greatly appreciated.

"...highly susceptible to an organized campaign by U.S.-based Islamic organizations and their primary benefactor, Saudi Arabia, to present a view of Islam that whitewashes its violent history and intolerant religious imperatives." I'd be willing to bet that out of 100 graduating seniors this year, none would be able to tell me who Charles Martel was.

There is a solution. It's called homeschooling.
Unfortunately, I think homeschoolers are high on the "must eliminate" priority list for our enlightened masters.

They will know him soon. That, I promise you...

Parents who actually have brains should challenge their kids to go direct to the primary source, i.e., for American history and government, read Washington's speeches, The Federalist Papers, de Tocqueville, the Declaration and the Constitution, etc.So, all right, we're talking about 5% of the population.
What about the remaining 95%?
Always verify the facts with primary sources, consider things from different viewpoints, and understand rhetoric, logic, and the English language.
We're doomed.
DOOMED!

Agreed and a lot of parents with brains, especially Conservatives do. My daughter home schools her kids and the textbook thing is one of her pet peeves.

I agree with your assertion about homeschooling. I have a 4 year-old that I am going to start on the curriculum from Texas Tech soon. I fear it may become a thing of the past, unfortunately.
To: jazusamo
My four year old already knows about people “leaning on their own understanding” instead of on God’s Word and asks me about it when we read things in certain books.

I was wondering, in regards to this author, Spenser: what if we bought his books in bulk and just donated them around various channels (Library, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc)? Wouldn’t that help the cause of getting out alternative information? Just a thought.
To: austinaero
Spenser = Spencer, no disrespect intended.

I'd be willing to bet that out of 100 graduating seniors this year, none would be able to tell me who Charles Martel was. Didn't he stop the Muslim invasion from advancing northward into France from conquered Spain?

Yes. Most credit him with saving the rest of Europe from Muslim hegemony, at the time.
Not that it mattered in the LONG run, mind you...
