Two points on this topic.

CVS is only being picked on because they are in the unions’ crosshairs to be organized. This kind of calumny is just part of the SEIU’s arsenal.

Second, Rite Aid actually has concentrated the placement of their stores in America’s most dangerous communities. The strategy doesn’t seem to have worked, the stock is currently trading at 46 cents. Why would CVS choose to go down the same road?

This is a setup for Card Check. The Union bosses and thugs are on a rampage and they are determined to bite the hand that feeds.

Let them have it. Let them do what they are going to end up doing anyway. Stop fighting this insanity, let reality be the ultimate arbitor of who is right and who is wrong. We are living in a microwave society, everything is speeding up. We will live to see the results of this. We will also live to see this ideology be completely dsicredited in the minds of those who think. As for those who dont think, they wont be alive, so it wont matter.

The Philadelphia Public Ledger takes up the story in its February 26, 1846 publication:

I went to a Wahlgreens in Hampton, VA. I was the only white person in the store. Other than the race of the customers and staff, it was more or less indistinguishable from the one in Attleborough, MA. (And I was treated courtesly by everyone.)

I suppose Hampton is a relatively affluent black area. It has nothing to to with race and everything to do with getting robbed and shoplifting.

First of all, CVS can locate its stores wherever it darn well pleases.

Secondly, I suspect those figures showing there are 48% more CVS store in the wealthiest neighborhoods compared to the poorest and 1/3 fewer stores per person in non-white areas are very misleading.

The primary reason for this “discrepancy” is almost certainly population density. More affluent neighborhoods are much more spread out than inner city ones, requiring a chain to have more stores, to be within a reasonble distance of the same number of customers, as compared with the inner city. The fact that there are ONLY 1/3 fewer stores per capita in the inner city, is probably an indication that CVS is making a concerted effort to serve the inner city.

But, again, CVS should is not obligated to “serve the community”. They are in business to make money and if stores in certain communities are unprofitable, or unsafe, there is no reason for CVS to maintain them there.

Does anyone else see the mortgage meltdown pattern repeating itself?

Step one - “Community Organizers” cry “redlining” and coerce businesses into making bad business decisions by threatening them with protests and demanding legislation that will force them to make unprofitable business decisons.

The next step will be a boom in inner city pharmacy openings, as a result of a combination of coercion and funding/tax breaks from the Federal government.

After that will come the great inner city pharmacy bust, with stores losing money and chains facing bankruptcy.

Finally, of course, there will be a massive, taxpayer funded, pharmacy bailout.

I once walked into a Jack in the Box (fast-food restaurant) that had bulletproof glass between the kitchen and the dining area. The employees stood behind the bulletproof glass while they took your order. There was a little opening to push the money through, just like in a bank. The food was handed out through a "space lock" type glass box that had two doors. The employee would open his door, slide the food in, and close his door again. When the employee's door was closed, the customer's door would unlock and they would open it and get their food.

I am not making this up. If I hadn't been a) packing and b) very hungry, I would have walked out soo fast.

In the 80s, Buffalo, NY a black owner opened a supermarket in a closed supermarket in the middle of the ghetto. He called it FIGMOS (Finally I Got My Own Supermarket). Lasted less than a year.When he closed it, he said the reason was the shoplifters robbed him blind.

My B-I-L had to deliver food to a Family Dollar store in one of the worst neighborhoods. He sent the boxes down the rollers into the back of the store. The manager stood there with a gun in a holster. The reason- people were running up and stealing cases before they even made it in the store.
