CVS denies allegations of 'red lining' (they must be Republicans)

A coalition of community groups led by the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP strongly criticized CVS Pharmacies yesterday, accusing the chain of failing to provide customers equal access to stores and services in Philadelphia.

“Step one - “Community Organizers” cry “redlining” and coerce businesses into making bad business decisions by threatening them with protests and demanding legislation that will force them to make unprofitable business decisons.”

The retort from CVS should be, “no one is forcing you to shop here.”

Yeh, that would be breaking WHAT law? “If you are going to have a business, then you must have it where WE say.” I say they fight it. Or put in one that is 10’ x 10’.

Yes, 10' x 10', with 4 heavily armed guards, bullet-proof glass, 24/7 video surveillance and prescriptions which cost 5x as much as their other sites to cover the higher cost of business.

In the 80s, Buffalo, NY a black owner opened a supermarket in a closed supermarket in the middle of the ghetto. He called it FIGMOS (Finally I Got My Own Supermarket). Lasted less than a year.When he closed it, he said the reason was the shoplifters robbed him blind.

My B-I-L had to deliver food to a Family Dollar store in one of the worst neighborhoods. He sent the boxes down the rollers into the back of the store. The manager stood there with a gun in a holster. The reason- people were running up and stealing cases before they even made it in the store.

It might be a similar situation as happened to banks/lenders
under Bill Clinton.
And I was suprised to hear no less than Robert B. Reiche (sp?),
Clinton's Sec. of Labor report that Clinton threatened banks/lenders
if they didn't start loosening up their lending standards to
get unqualified borrowers into mortgages.
This admission was made on a TV interview during the meltdown
of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
(I think I heard the audio on Rush's show.)

I suppose Clinton threatened them with legal governmental
harassement like IRS hassles and legal investigations on the
slimmest of pretexts.

Poor people steal and shoplift at a far higher rate than do other demographics. Also, poor areas see a lot more robberies than other areas.
