A coalition of community groups led by the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP strongly criticized CVS Pharmacies yesterday, accusing the chain of failing to provide customers equal access to stores and services in Philadelphia.

We have CVS in bad areas. They have gates on the windows and doors. Nice touch!!
Two points on this topic.
CVS is only being picked on because they are in the unions’ crosshairs to be organized. This kind of calumny is just part of the SEIU’s arsenal.
Second, Rite Aid actually has concentrated the placement of their stores in America’s most dangerous communities. The strategy doesn’t seem to have worked, the stock is currently trading at 46 cents. Why would CVS choose to go down the same road?
You are kidding! How disgusting! Yes, we do need to run the shakedown artists out of the country.
US of KKKA according to rev. wright.
There was also the case of a tunnel from Mexico to the U.S. that was being used to smuggle drugs and illegal immigrants. Because part of the tunnel was within Mexico’s borders, American authorities weren’t allowed to shut it down until a court ruled that the tunnel violated U.S. mine safety standards.
That’s what it seems like to me... blackmail to unionize.
Let them have it. Let them do what they are going to end up doing anyway. Stop fighting this insanity, let reality be the ultimate arbitor of who is right and who is wrong. We are living in a microwave society, everything is speeding up. We will live to see the results of this. We will also live to see this ideology be completely dsicredited in the minds of those who think. As for those who dont think, they wont be alive, so it wont matter.
A cleansing is coming.
"The old Independence Bell rang its last clear note on Monday last in honor of the birthday of Washington and now hangs in the great city steeple irreparably cracked and dumb. It had been cracked before but was set in order of that day by having the edges of the fracture filed so as not to vibrate against each other ... It gave out clear notes and loud, and appeared to be in excellent condition until noon, when it received a sort of compound fracture in a zig-zag direction through one of its sides which put it completely out of tune and left it a mere wreck of what it was."
Yes. I agree
That’s one of my little “pet-peeves” as well.
Petty, perhaps, but I can’t help it: seeing “loose” where “lose” belongs is just plain annoying to me.
I think you should sue them...
;^)
“Compound fracture”?
I think not. I don’t see any pieces of the “clapper” sticking out through the crack...
I went to a Wahlgreens in Hampton, VA. I was the only white person in the store. Other than the race of the customers and staff, it was more or less indistinguishable from the one in Attleborough, MA. (And I was treated courtesly by everyone.)
I suppose Hampton is a relatively affluent black area. It has nothing to to with race and everything to do with getting robbed and shoplifting.
They will need to disarm the law-abiding first. That will be front & center on the agenda, despite claims to the contrary.
First of all, CVS can locate its stores wherever it darn well pleases.
Secondly, I suspect those figures showing there are 48% more CVS store in the wealthiest neighborhoods compared to the poorest and 1/3 fewer stores per person in non-white areas are very misleading.
The primary reason for this “discrepancy” is almost certainly population density. More affluent neighborhoods are much more spread out than inner city ones, requiring a chain to have more stores, to be within a reasonble distance of the same number of customers, as compared with the inner city. The fact that there are ONLY 1/3 fewer stores per capita in the inner city, is probably an indication that CVS is making a concerted effort to serve the inner city.
But, again, CVS should is not obligated to “serve the community”. They are in business to make money and if stores in certain communities are unprofitable, or unsafe, there is no reason for CVS to maintain them there.
Does anyone else see the mortgage meltdown pattern repeating itself?
Step one - “Community Organizers” cry “redlining” and coerce businesses into making bad business decisions by threatening them with protests and demanding legislation that will force them to make unprofitable business decisons.
The next step will be a boom in inner city pharmacy openings, as a result of a combination of coercion and funding/tax breaks from the Federal government.
After that will come the great inner city pharmacy bust, with stores losing money and chains facing bankruptcy.
Finally, of course, there will be a massive, taxpayer funded, pharmacy bailout.
They should open the CVS and put a few voting booths in it. That will guarantee the store protection from the local ACORN chapter.
I am not making this up. If I hadn't been a) packing and b) very hungry, I would have walked out soo fast.
“What I don’t get is why the NAACP wants CVS stores in their neigborhoods if the stores suck so much. “
Makes me think of the Michael Savage argument about McCain. “McCain sucks and America doesn’t need another liberal in the White House. Why won’t McCain come on my show?”
All our GoMarts have the slide out box between 10 pm and 6 am. You can’t go inside. I never thought I would see that happen here but they installed them after a couple of shootings a few years ago.
Neiman Marcus is guilty of the very same thing....
It’s not just pizza delivery drivers who have been forced into extremely bad neighborhoods.
All of us - American citizens - are now bailing out the banks that were forced to give mortgages in extremely bad neighborhoods.
The NAACP should just shut up. They’re a racist organization. Imagine how they’d scream if there were a NAAWP.
