California doesn't have the worst budget gap (WHOO HOO! We're #3, AZ #1, NY #2. NCSL survey)

As large as it is, California's projected budget deficit may be only the third worst among the states according to a new survey by the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Arizona, with a projected 24.2 percent deficit next year and New York at 20 percent are deeper in the hole than California at 18 percent, the NCSL survey found.

In terms of actual dollars, however, California easily leads the pack. Overall, NCSL says, states face $97 billion in additional budget deficits over the next 18 to 24 months and California, at $28 billion and growing, approaches a third of the total.

We have a surplus in Arkansas. We do not live high on the hog down here. People do not like taxes so spending in kept in check even by our conservative democrats who control the State.

I guess we know why she was so eager to jump ship for DC.

On a side note,

one of the states with no deficit? Alaska. Looks like their governor is doing a pretty good job fiscally. It’s interesting that of the 12 states with no deficit, 10 voted for McCain. Of the 10 States with Billion+ deficits, 8 voted for Obama.

Those states that care about deficits and spending and good budgets and have done it, were on the right side.

California and Arizona.

Hmm. What could those two states possibly have in common?

Can’t think of anything...

What could it be?

Yes, she’ll fit in perfectly in the new ‘change’ in Washington.

I think we aught to call her ‘nappy no’.

California, Arizona, and New York have a high percentage of illegal aliens. Wow what a coincidence. Also states that have enacted TABOR, Taxpayer Bill of Rights (Balanced Budget Amendments) seem to be doing well, a Conservative concept.

Alaska taxes the crap out of the oil companies. I don’t think that is necessarily the free market road to prosperity.

Man... there's spin and then there's spin.

What a classic case of lies, damned lies and statistics... California, led by a legislature with arguably the lowest collective IQ in North America, has no equal.

The electorate is not too far behind. They recall a governor, then replace him with another who travels the exact same road, budget-wise. Without the b**** to stare down the "girlie-men" for as long as it takes.
If the legislature can't find ways to reduce spending, clearly the incompetents should all be fired and replaced with non-criminals.

It’s may be a bit deceiving. Don’t some states require a balanced budget by law? For example, it shows no budget gap for Grandholm’s Michigan and I hear she’s taxing the crap out of people.

Also, Alaska, Louisiana and TX all made out good last year because they’re oil producing states and the price of oil was way up.

All oil producing states tax oil companies.

So does the federal government.

At least some of the Alaska tax goes back to the taxpayer.

How much do you get back from the federal government?

Oh and, bad bad Sarah!
