Breaking: India Receives New Attack Threats (Airline Hijackings)

India has put all of its major airports on high alert after receiving threats that planes may be about to be hijacked.

Airport security has been tightened and travellers are being asked to check in three hours before their flights.

Air force chief Fali Homi Major said: "This is based on a warning, which has been received and we are prepared as usual."

Indian TV reported that the alert was issued after an email from Deccan Mujahideen, the same group that claimed the Mumbai attacks.

Sky's India correspondent Alex Crawford said: "The Indian Bureau for Civil Aviation has warned of an attempt to hijack one or more planes at Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore airports.

"Chennai airport is also on hijack alert - this is where the England cricket team is expected to play one of their test matches."

Indian Defence Minister A K Antony has told military chiefs to be prepared for attacks from the air and sea in the wake of growing criticism about slack security after the Mumbai attacks.

Before I knew India loved America, I hoped we would be closer to them. I wish it were due to other circumstances though. Pakistan is a menace to India and to us. We have much in common and both could help each other in the WOT and dealing with China. FWIW, I have often wondered what role it may have had in the 9/11 attack, considering the date is a national holiday there.

Be careful when you say India love US. Overseas nations do not have short memories like Americans. During Cold War we supported Pakistan while India allied herself with the Soviet Union (wonder where all those Migs and AK-47 came from and are used in their armed forces). We further insulted them by calling for an embargo when India developed their first atomic bomb. Until the US dumps Pakistan and resovlves India’s right to have nukes, India will approach relations with us carefully. They do not want to die to the last Indian in a US instigated war against China. It doesn’t mean India do not want the US as an ally, but it is not the cozy relation you imagine.
