India has put all of its major airports on high alert after receiving threats that planes may be about to be hijacked.
Airport security has been tightened and travellers are being asked to check in three hours before their flights.
Air force chief Fali Homi Major said: "This is based on a warning, which has been received and we are prepared as usual."
Indian TV reported that the alert was issued after an email from Deccan Mujahideen, the same group that claimed the Mumbai attacks.
Sky's India correspondent Alex Crawford said: "The Indian Bureau for Civil Aviation has warned of an attempt to hijack one or more planes at Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore airports.
"Chennai airport is also on hijack alert - this is where the England cricket team is expected to play one of their test matches."
Indian Defence Minister A K Antony has told military chiefs to be prepared for attacks from the air and sea in the wake of growing criticism about slack security after the Mumbai attacks.

Oh, what fun. Any chance of a full-on war breaking out over there ?
At least a 50-50 chance if I had to guess. We don’t really need a nuclear war in South Asia.
Religion of peace alert.
I for one know I’m going to be sleeping really well after January 20th with the incoming regime keeping us all safe. And if you believe that, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you.
If it came down to a nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan, I believe India would come out on top. They would take some hits, which is not good, but I think Pakistan would suffer much more. I just hope the winds are coming from the north and blow the fallout into the Indian Ocean.
I won’t be shedding any tears for Pakistani’s either. They’ve condoned terror through their silence. As have all islamic countries.
Pakistan has verged on the edge of an outlaw state- it could be said to have crossed the line on several occasions.
In a just universe, the civilized world would deal with it in unison.

Only it is not being told to the people nor being reported.
And of course, both sides will deny anything happened.
One side won't want to face up to the fact that they had reams of terrorists on their national soil and were attacked over it, and the punishing side(s) won't want to admit it was their joint teams and technology out there cleaning up things.
Wait for a few years and it will come out over time.
There is indeed a lot going on behind the surface these days. And it is about time!
Kurukshetra War - Kali Yuga ping...

When I was last in Mumbai’s international airport, the only armed presence I observed was ONE uniformed (presumed to be ‘Army’) guard.
He carried an AK-47 with a clip in it and NO extra clips. The rifle was CHAINED to him via a metal hoop on his belt.
THAT was the only visible armed security in the entire terminal.
Bear in mind that in Mumbai, India you (used to) have NO fear of street crime. Beggars yes, assault no, theft no (aside from pick-pockets).
Sadly, India may up the number of guards to 4 or 5. Their culture is SO not about use of force.
Listen, old .303s in capable hands will do the job but you have to know how to shoot and most of all TO SHOOT! That Enfield has a quick action bolt that surprised many Japanese and Germans with their rate of fire. And there’s many Enfields, Springfields, Mosin-Nagants, etc., (not to mention U.S. Carbines, Garands) standing in U.S. home’s corners or closets.

It's funny, absent Pakistan, I wouldn't worry very much about India having nukes because I don't think the Indians would be in a hurry to use them. Regardless of what India has, I do worry about Pakistani nukes given the Islamist sympathies of much of the ISI and the population, the instability of the government, and the precariousness of the economy.
I think the Indians and Pakistanis basically deserve each other, and am only concerned how an Indo-Pakistani war would negatively affect our ability to maintain our presence in Afghanistan.
In 1914, British infantry -- almost all professionals at that point and at a high standard of training -- was capable of firing up to 30 aimed rounds per minute with .303 Enfields. The Germans thought they were facing machine guns.
If they are sending an official warning it is most likely an effort to create further chaos and further damage their economy.
Pray for India, pray for the civilized world.
Get the #%&$ out of tall buildings now! India is going to turn into an snapshot of what was averted in America.
Hey, deepak chopra...is this our fault too???
