> Stating that Mormons are not real Christians is not the same thing as Mormon bashing

Let's try it a different way, see how it looks:

"Stating that MormonsCatholics are not real Christians is not the same thing as MormonCatholic bashing..."

Or how 'bout:

"Stating that MormonsBaptists are not real Christians is not the same thing as MormonBaptist bashing..."

Ummmm... yeah it is. It is the same thing. And it is ugly and unbecoming of Christians. I think we ought to leave it to God to decide who is/isn't "Christian" and focus instead on working out our own Salvation with trembling and fear.

We each of us aren't that righteous...

Pointing out differences between what the Bible teaches and what certain churches teach is NOT bashing anyone. It’s TRYING to point out the truth of the scriptures verses the tradition of man. Truth does hurt at times and you do have to do it with love. But even when you do, people think it’s hate.

Yep! I always wondered who came down from heaven and gave these bigots disguised as Christians the right to proclaim who is and who isn't Christian.

That being said, I've heard Mormons also keep a year's supply of guns and ammunition on hand as well as food. I think everyone should do the same.

THANK YOU!

Bears repeating! We have a much bigger enemy than each other.

It is up to God to judge our hearts. But we have to settle our theological disputes here on earth. That was the motivation behind the Nicene Creed. Are we going to throw that away? Are we going to be silent while heresies pass themselves off as Christian? Of course not.

Challenging Mormons on their theology is one thing (although such things have their correct place and time). I’ve certainly seen Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and various Protestant sects similarly challenged over in the Religion forum.

What we are seeing after Proposition 8 is another thing entirely. This sounds like it’s building towards an anti-Mormon pogrom.

So their going after the Mormon’s first this time, they’ll get around to the rest of us in good time.

And it is ugly and unbecoming of Christians.   (Oh?)
I think we ought to leave it to God to decide who is/isn't "Christian".....

I'm sorry; but as a CHRISTIAN, I do NOT have that option.

Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Romans 6:17
But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.

 Romans 15:4
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

 Romans 16:17
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

1 Corinthians 4:17
For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

1 Corinthians 11:1-2
 1.  Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
 2.  I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,  just as I passed them on to you.

Ephesians 4:14
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings  we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching  you received from us.

1 Timothy 1:3-4
 3.  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
 4.  nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.

1 Timothy 2:7
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

 2 Timothy 1:13
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

Hebrews 13:8-9
 8.  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
 9.  Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them.

2 John 1:10
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

Titus 2:1
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

Catholics & Baptists (& Methodists, Presbyerians, Lutherans, Bible churches, generic evangelical Churches, along with 99% of churches who call themselves “Christian”) all profess belief in One God who created all that is, existing from all eternity in 3 Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

LDS/Mormonism does not. In the opinion of traditional theologians from all the previously mentioned groups, the LDS does not hold to this or other essential doctrines ALL Christians have for 2000 years.

In the opinion of your founder Joseph Smith, all (Chiristian) churches were “an abomination” hence, I do not know why you wish for the recognition of us abominable Christians. Be happy, be Mormon—and I won’t discriminate against you—but please don’t claim the mantle “Christian.”

Disagreeing, even strongly with another’s beliefs is NOT “bashing” except under a liberal, PC understanding of pluralistic relativism.

I saw the ad in question, and it truly was abominable, as it was a lie, and truly “bashed” (with lies) a small minority religion. That doesn’t mean Christians shouldn’t speak the truth—in love—to defend the good news of the biblical Jesus Christ.

Okay, it might be a little strong to say that Mormons cannot be Christians, but I have no trouble calling Mormonism a heresy. Yes, we should be primarily concerned with our own salvation, but throughout history--going back to Biblical times--Christians have also had to guard against heresies in the church.

Nonetheless, despite my theological disagreements, I strongly respect many Mormons (who are as a group very hard working and responsible) and supported one for President in the primaries.
