Costco has 520 stores nationwide. But you will not find "Christmas" in a single store.
That's because Costco says it will not use the term "Christmas" on its website or in its stores. Instead, Costco is telling customers it purposely chooses to use the generic "holiday" verbiage. You know, they stock holiday gifts, not Christmas gifts.
Last week, a customer wrote to Costco and asked this direct question – "Does Costco use the word 'Christmas' in your store advertising or on any signs anywhere in your stores during the Christmas season? That's a pretty simple question, yes or no."
Kory Rosacrans, staff manager for Costco replied, "I guess the answer would be No."
Rosacrans said, "Costco does not advertise on television, on radio or in print like other retailers. We only advertise by mailings and e-mail messages sent directly to our members who have paid for the privilege of shopping with us."
Costco wants you to do your "Christmas" shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists.

Costco never decorates or puts up any paraphernalia for any holiday regardless of what it is. They sell Christmas merchandise and Christmas trees but don’t have a banner or a Nativity scene or anything like that.

Why does it seem that any time these companies try this PC garbage...they’re not companies I support anyway?
Bank of Amigo is another example that comes to mind.
In fantasy land that is a great idea, but when retail stores make 75% of their annual profit during Christmas shopping season between Black Friday and Christmas Eve, don’t you think it is a little ironic they refuse to acknowledge the reason for their profits?
I asked the bank manager at Wachovia why they got rid of the Christmas tree and decorations and she said it was corporate policy. She said they are not allowed to say Merry Christmas or recognize the day. I asked why Wachovia was closed for a federal bank holiday on December 25th. She said it was because of “Christmas”. But, you are not allowed to say the word.
We live in interesting times.
The American Family Association, which reaches 2.5 million members, has also released a similar list to advise its supporters on where to shop this Christmas. The conservative organization combed through print ads, radio spots and websites by top retailers to make the list.
A few companies that made the “Nice” category on both lists included Bed Bath & Beyond, Family Dollar, Macy’s and Wal-Mart.
The Office Depot, CVS Pharmacy and Gap were some stores that both lists had labeled as “Naughty.”
This I doubt. Costco just beat estimates last quarter, and in a poor economy, a low-cost chain like Costco should do well.
So where do Freepers actually shop?
I’ve seen Costco, Sams, Wal-Mart, Target, and Kroger off limits on here. What’s left?
No, but she was Jewish, a bit upper crust at that. I wouldn’t have cared if she had the “the holiday.” Plenty of people do and I do understand the cultural sensitivities. But just “Holiday,” as though that were the proper name, made me nuts. And I worked with her for two years, so if I heard “Holiday” once, I heard it 200 times.
Costco does not rely on Christmas to make its annual profit goals like many retailers. They sell pretty good to excellent quality products at very good prices for the most part.
Sure, they sell seasonal stuff, but Christmas stuff is a very small portion of their inventory.
A couple of the guys who check my receipt at my local Costco are saying Merry Christmas. During the rest of the year, the one older gentlemen ALWAYS says “God bless you” to everyone.
This one shops at Costco, Wal-Mart, and Meijer. That is pretty much the end of the list. Sometimes Home Depot.
My whole family is now in the habit of writing it as CHRISTmas and pronouncing CHRISTmas with a long “I” as in Jesus Christ.
It serves to remind us and those around us what the real reason for the season is all about.

Absolutely. As a private company they have every right.
A telephone call or an email will have more of an effect than simply griping here.
I’ve done that with TJMaxx. They used to have signs and ads for Chanuka and for the Holidays but none for Christmas. I notice they mentioned Christmas in one ad this year. It’s a start.
I suppose then people should buy “holiday” gifts (whenever that might be) from Costco and Christmas gifts somewhere else since Costco doesn’t have any of those...
I was thinking about actually going to a costco and asking a manager where they kept the Christmas gifts. ;)
This claim about Target raises its head every year and gets debunked every year. Target uses the word Christmas in its advertising, in the store and the employees say "Merry Christmas". Here is your link.

We all need to “turtle up”, economically, in order to keep the economy slow for the time being.
Explanation: Can you imagine 0bama & a fillibuster proof senate with the 90’s economy? We’d all be goosestepping to the “Civilian Defense Corps boogie” by now.
I refuse to go to a store where I have to first pay to walk in the door. If they want me as a customer, don’t charge me an entry fee. And if Costco would want me as a customer, they just lost me for a second reason.
Yes, but most customers aren't really going to be offended by this. I'm a Christian, but I don't care whether they have a sign that says "Merry Christmas." Who cares? I go to church to hear about Jesus and I go to Costco for $2 chicken breasts.
And, for what it's worth, the Costco by my house has had Christmas decorations up in the store since September. Whatever.
