Take it to the bank.
I don’t see that Franken can get any help from his Senate friends now. Even if the Senate decided it had to try to pick the Senator in Minnesota, it seems to me they would be fillibustered. Even the RHINOS wouldn’t vote against expanding their own party.
That’s conservative in my book, too. Thanks be to Almighty God that Chambliss won. Now I just wish the same for Norm Coleman.
Which Nelson were you talking about? There are two Nelsons in the Senate-—Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Bill Nelson of Florida. They are Democrats.
And by the way, it’s Hagel, not Hagle.
CNN was mourning the loss of stopping a fillibuster this morning like it was the end of the world but then they pointed out that a fillibuster would be rare and partistanship was now appropriate and even Palin said so
Don’t think that there are some Blue Dog Dems from the South that won’t go along with the Obama/Pelosi/Reid plan.
IMHO, even if they had 60 in the Chambers it wasn’t a guarantee that they could filibuster a number of items on the Dem liberal agenda.
And don’t forget that Sarah campaigned for him, and his numbers went up considerably after that.
Wow... looking at Jim Martin’s campaign website, I can see why this doofus lost by such a large margin in the runoff...
This race is about helping President-elect Barack Obama get our economy back on track and making the economy work for the middle class again. It’s time for change in Georgia. It’s time for a U.S. Senator who will stand with President-elect Barack Obama, not obstruct progress. It’s time for an America that’s united in our hope for the future, not divided by our differences. It’s time for us to win this race.
America has elected Barack Obama President, and now is the time for us to help him succeed. Saxby Chambliss has promised to do everything he can to stop Barack Obama from succeeding.
Psst — Jim — I hate to break the news to you, but Georgia vote AGAINST Obama for President. You’ll telling voters that you’re going to “stand with” someone they DON’T want in office.
Didn’t seem to motivate them to support you too much, eh?
Well outside the margin of lawyer. Looks like Obama’s halo is already fading.
For a little frosting of schadenfreude: back when he was considering running for president, he approached a top Republican campaign manager type to be HIS campaign manager and was told rather coldly that he should pay attention to his senate campaign as he was far from a shoo-in for reelection. Apparently he checked around and found out the guy was being kind...
Sorry I don't remember the source for the above, but it was a solid, reliable Republican pundit and I heard it on either TV or radio—it was a looonnnng time ago, maybe as much as two years. I've forgotten the messenger and all the details but I sure did remember the message with a great deal of pleasure.
“Thanks be to Almighty God that Chambliss won. Now I just wish the same for Norm Coleman.”
>>>>>>>>>>...............
Coleman was a democrat most of his life, He & Chambliss love illegal immigrants and both love big gov spending..
The GOP is full of RINO’s (Bloomberg is a poster boy)and on a conservative web site we cheer when they are elected..gotta wonder if anyone
sees the reality of it all..GOP is not a conservative party
and is full of liberals.
thank God
On reflection, I’m not so convinced that a Chambliss win is a good thing....it’s probably a bad thing. The same for Coleman.
My thinking is that the Liberals now have a defacto 60+ vote margin. If you take the true liberal republicans like Snowe, Collins, Specter, and Hagel, you give the liberal wing in the Senate a 62 vote secure majority.
If you add the true Rinos like Voinovich, McCain, Martinez, Lugar, and Graham, there is on any vote, the very real possibility of a 69 vote secure majority for liberals.
If the Democrats had their 60 vote majority, anything that happened would be directly the responsibility of the democrats/liberals. As it now stands, they can play blame games on minor votes in which the “republican coalition” filibusters insignificant financial and social initiatives of the democrats.
It is certain that they will do this.
Snowe, Collins, and Hagel make it CERTAIN that we WILL get socialized health care.
McCain makes it CERTAIN that just about any liberal judge nominated for Scotus will get approved. Period. He’ll cover himself by saying they were highly rated.
I guess some people just do not get sarcasm. That was PURE sarcasm. Sorry you could not seem too pick that up.
I will take that chance.
In addition, this win in Georgia was at least as big a win for Sarah. It should what she can accomplish on her own and you can bet that there will be great demand for the same in 2010.
One can hope, Jeff, but Collins, Snowe, Hagel, and Specter don’t give me much reason to hope.
At the same time, from your lips to God’s ears.
If only we could add McCain's name to the list.
58 is enough with rinos like snowe, collins and martinez around. Expect terribly liberal scotus replacements.
I have less hope that we would be able to sway the dems, although there are a few of them who are probably about as close to good principle as the RINOs.
Gotta try though.
