Democrats are relying on moderate Republicans such as Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, who are left of center on issues such as Medicare spending and the Iraq war, the Post said.
Other possible swing votes are Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., whose socially liberal views make him a prospective Democratic recruit on spending matters and Obama's judicial nominations, and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who has supported some Democratic initiatives, such as embryonic stem cell research funding, that likely will get an early airing during the next session.
Next up: RINOs gone wild! |

And folks were worried about the filibuster proof 60 majority.
Who needs it when you have RINOs?
Senator Voinivich, I’m talking to you!!
It was the Dems that killed them on these issues. The wet Republicans were more than offset by Democrats who had gotten themselves elected in Republican states by saying they were conservatives. For example, they wouldn't touch immigration amnesty. Is there reason to suppose things will be much different this time around?
What’s sad is with the overall move to center by the GOP, the Dems will get just what they want. It won’t be difficult at all. On any given issue there will be a rotating list of RINO’s who’ll cross over.
The only thing that matters is card check.
Even RINOS like McCain, Snowe, and Collins voted to filibuster.
Pretty much. The Rats have successfully emasculated the Republican Party.
You can bet that little Johnny McCain will be there with them to put his finger in our eye. He will give us ample proof of why we did not like him, you can count on that.
wow. didn’t see THAT coming.../s/
Just thinking out loud, I’m curious to see how far the rino/moderates will go. If they want any sort of leadership in the party, given the state of the base, then it would be in their interest to follow the party line more.
I think most here will be watching and will use their record against these rinos in the future. Hopefully Arizona freepers have begun working towards defeating McCain in the Arizona primaries.
But seriously republicans need to sell why this stuff is bad. The UAW bailout is already unpopular. It will be difficult to stop free giveaways unless we stir up deficit-mania and I see no sign of that.
I’ve said all along that John McLame is a RINO turd and have been creamed by some here for those statements.
Well I stand by what I said about this p.o.s., John McLame is garbage.
Don’t talk to Voinibitch, stone him.
Yep.
any given issue there will be a rotating list of RINOs wholl cross over
You have that exactly right. A rotating list.
Compassionate conservatism is doublespeak for republican socialist.
We need to ask McCain and other faux conservatives to change parties.
McCain, having played the role of Dr. Jekyll during the election, will now return to his role of Mr. Hyde in the Senate.
I agree. Even a RINO would be insane to support a bill to introduce union thugs to thousands of small businesses across the country. Absolutely insane.
