STS-126 to Press Ahead With a Landing in California
Flight controllers have elected to press ahead with space shuttle Endeavour's landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California at 1:25 p.m. - 4:25 p.m. EST today. The deorbit burn is scheduled for 3:19 p.m.
Steady stream of vehicles are now headed to Edwards to watch the landing.
Perfect day for a desert landing!
Best of luck to the crew.
Weather conditions forced flight controllers to pass on Endeavours second landing opportunity at Kennedy Space Center today. The next opportunity for STS-126 to land is at 4:25 p.m. EST at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.Endeavour arrived at the station Nov. 16, delivering equipment that will help allow the station to double its crew size to six. In addition, the STS-126 astronauts delivered Expedition 18 Flight Engineer Sandra Magnus, who replaced Greg Chamitoff, now a mission specialist returning to Earth aboard Endeavour.
I'll check back in a couple of hours.
I don’t live too far from KSC in Florida. Lemme tell you..the winds are high today...33 mph as I type and under a tornado watch til 9 pm.
Must be perfect on landing, no second chances here.
I was present for a Shuttle landing at Edwards, back in the Eighties. What a fantastic experience!
Don't know what the winds are like at Edwards, maybe someone can post it. I've got 2 projects going and will check back.
Wish I could have gone today...real busy here on the home front..I'll I have to settle for the twin booms...
Check back in here later.
I’m 75 miles from Edwards AFB and can usually step ouitside and hear the sonic booms as it comes in.
Do you know where to find flight path for today’s landing at Edwards
The Sunday morning talk shows are breaking news, but the Space Shuttle landing is not? lol
I guess some people have no idea how fantastic, and how *extremely* dangerous these reentries and landings are.
Amazing...
From a previous landing:
Atlantis’ flight path brougt it over San Diego and just east of Los Angeles before it touched down at Edwards where it was greeted by fair skies and light winds.
BTW, Edwards is currently 52 degrees with 3mph winds.
