'In with a bang' Obama dismays the faithful
UK Times ^ | Nov. 30, 2008 | Tony Allen-Mills

Fifty days before President George W Bush packs his bags for Texas, Obama has already usurped much of his predecessor's authority. Yet in doing so he has exposed himself to early controversy that may seriously shorten the presidential honeymoon that most new incumbents enjoy. There are already stirrings of confusion and dismay among Democratic faithful perturbed by some of Obama's early appointments.

At three press conferences last week, Obama in effect seized control of America's economic policy, unveiling a new team of advisers and future cabinet members, and laying out his plans for a sweeping stimulus programme.

When India was rocked by terrorist attacks on Mumbai, it was to Obama that the American media turned for reaction. He consulted Condoleezza Rice, Bush's secretary of state, and on Friday announced that he was closely monitoring the crisis even as his Chicago home was filling with 60 friends and family members invited for a Thanksgiving dinner.

The Law will be followed. Period.

I hope so! I personally doubt that Obama qualifies, because I can't think of any reason for him to go to so much expense and trouble to hide his birth certificate if he could easily reveal it without any seriously negative consequences. The current suit that seems most promising in terms of forcing him to reveal this, btw, is one that challenges the eligibility of both McCain and Obama. It would be quite something if they were both found ineligible! I guess we'd have a do-over, or perhaps Congress would select the president. It would certainly be an unprecedented situation and probably one the Founders hadn't even dreamed of when they wrote the rule.

He was using “The Secret” which Oprah featured on her show. When I saw that plane, with the seat for “The President”, I knew Oprah was coaching obama. Just picture and focus on what you want, and you can make it happen.

That's very interesting. Sort of "Karl Marx gone New Age."

They weren’t Barry’s selections. The were selected by the Socialist International Elite at CFR.

This spin is making me dizzy.

Obama hasn't "seized control" of America's economic policy . . . it's what he was given on November 4.

The reality of his getting what he hoped for explains the "O's" graying hair and facial tic. ;^)

Why dont we hold Obama to ALL his promises even the crazy ones? Publically we must say we want him to be a success but that would be a disaster. Democrats four year election strategy was to attack GWB from all directions, left, right, middle. But we are HAPPY BoB is not raising taxes till later. I want to see a strategy!

The usurper is moving at surprising speed.

As I have predicted, he will continue to consolidate power as swiftly as possible. His opponents will be hard pressed to catch up or keep pace. The media are in agreement with his intentions to cripple America, and collude by ignoring Bush, thereby politically killing him off before his term ends.

I’m kind of uninformed about the whole elctoral thing but who else would the electoral college elect other than Obama?

can they really elect someone else at this point?

also, what if Obama becomes legitimately disqualified before 1/20? who becomes president?

Yes! He said in Denver that he would defeat poverty, disease and climate change so anytime we see a poor person, a kid with the sniffles or there is anything unusual about the weather we should start whining about, “The failed policies of the Obama administration”.

He will be sworn in on Jan 20. Whether he is eligible or not is a moot point. For democrats the Constitution is a dead letter, "a little problem" as Tom D'Asshole once put it, and is in the process of being brushed aside, possibly for good. There seems to be precious little interest on the part of the GOP in saving it.

It helps to have a half a billion dollars from untraced foreign sources and thousands of media whores pumping for you.

Was there any doubt this would happen?

"Change You Can Believe In" is the hollow slogan they all voted for. It could mean something different to every one of them. There was no way they could end up united once he starts doing things.

I can't wait for the real "confusion and dismay". If our capitalist system is going to be ruined by this a$Z, it may as well be entertaining.

The question is ...does the MEDIA still comprehend that PRESIDENT BUSH is still the president?

The REAL question is ... did the MEDIA ever acknowledge that George W. Bush was duly elected president?

There is nothing in the constitution that requires the members of the Electoral College to vote for anyone.

When you voted for President you did not actually vote for Obama or McCain. Voters cast ballots for members of the Electoral college to meet and select a president.

When the electoral college was created communications was not very good. There was no way that voters in states could know about people who wanted to be president. So the founders decided that we would elect local people we knew and trusted to be members of the electoral college. They would meet to do the process of actually selecting our president.

They can vote for any qualified person they chose to vote for.

Aren’t the electors controlled by their states in some way? I know there are different policies - that is, in some states they are pledged to vote for particular candidates (as the voters have decided), in others they are not. Of course, if Obama were disqualified, I guess this would be a moot point anyway.

Another lying article, claiming that President Bush didn't say anything about the Mumbain attacks and Obama "filled the vacuum".

The MSM is ever diligent. They get the job done. Soviet era 'Pravda' would be proud.

Fifty days before President George W Bush packs his bags for Texas, Obama has already usurped much of his predecessor's authority.

Obama already usurping authority? Isn't he legally required to wait, other than planning for a smooth transition? I sometimes wonder if it's because he knows there are issues surrounding his citizenship, rather than just an eagerness to get started.

If Obama is disqualified we enter new ground, Constitutionally. There is no precedent.

If the electoral College has not voted, they would not be able to vote for Obama.

If he has been sworn in, Biden would get the job.

If not, I am not sure.

“He will be sworn in on Jan 20. Whether he is eligible or not is a moot point.’

If he is IN FACT ineligible, that is, if it is absolutely KNOWN that he is ineligible, you think business will proceed as usual?

Who are you that your business is so improtant that you won’t put it aside to deal with the question of what must be done in this matter? I CANNOT BELIEVE that there aren’t millions of Americans who will fail to put aside all other considerations to face this thing. Frankly I’m hoping Obozo is punking everyone with this not showing the BC schtick. If he isn’t there is going to be some trouble.
