Dr. Dobson: 'We Won’t Be Silenced'

So, Kathleen Parker has determined that getting rid of social conservatives and shelving the values they fight for is the solution to what ails the Republican Party (Giving Up on God, Nov. 19). Isnt that a little like Benedict Arnold handing George Washington a battle plan to win the Revolution?
Whatever she once was, Ms. Parker is certainly not a conservative anymore....

You won’t be silenced....., but after backing some ignoramus like Mike Huckabee, you can be sure you will be ignored.
Tyranny is bad, Dr. Dobson. It is just as bad when the “good guys” are in power. Socons have somehow missed this.

Score: Parker 70%, Dobson 30%
I agree and disagree with both of these people. I think a lot of the conservatives Parker refers to in her article tend to hang out with people like themselves. I know people like this. They don't realize how much the country has changed both demographically and socially.
Since the 1965 Immigration Reform Act (passed when Democrats controlled the House,Senate, and Presidency) the country has been flooded with tens of millions of third world immigrants. These people are now in their second and often third generation. They are natural Democratic supporters. The Republicans simply have not come to grips with this. These people for the most part want big government and liberal social programs. THAT'S A FACT!
Just because you are fleeing tyranny or want a better material life doesn't mean you have a clue about what it takes to be a citizen of a democratic republic. They sure as hell aren't going to get it in the public schools. They don't teach citizenship any longer.
This is a huge problem for the Republicans. Karl Rove and the Bush team think they can court Hispanic voters. RUBBISH! Hispanics don't like homosexual marriage and most don't like abortion but on every other issue are solidly liberal or even leftist. Bush and Co are very stupid about this. Yes the Cubans in South Florida are very anti-communist but take that issue off the table and they WILL vote democratic by at least a 2 to 1 margin. This will probably come about as a result off their offspring voting Democratic. Castro won't live forever and when he goes the situation will only get worse.
Yes Bush and Rove are very stupid about the Hispanic vote. Just because in few election when Republicans were running against a white male Democratic the Republican got about 45% of the Hispanic vote isn't reason to celebrate. If that Republican were running against a "person of color" as the PC like to put it, the Democrat would have got 75% or more of the vote.
The Hispanic vote for Obama or against McCain ought to shut up Rove once and for all but I know it won't. He makes his living giving dumb advice and this won't stop him at all.
I can't stand Parker. I can sense that she hates people of faith. You can tell it in her snide writing. But Dobson is wrong for the most part. Like I said he hangs out with people like himself and doesn't see what has happened around him.
So reluctantly I go with Parker. The Republicans have a big problem on their hands. It's not that the people of religious faith are turning off people in the middle, it's that these new voters are simply in favor of socialism. It's that simple.

This will probably come about as a result off their offspring voting Democratic. Castro won't live forever and when he goes the situation will only get worse. You are VERY wrong here for a variety of reasons:
1. Most Cuban Americans do NOT consider themselves people of color. According to most surveys, 85% are white. Hell, anyone who lives in South Florida can tell you that fact.
2. Most Cuban Americans are middle to upper class.
3. Cuban Americans have a high rate of intermarriage with other white Americans.
4. Cuban Americans are now a minority of Florida Hispanics, thanks to the large influx of Puerto Ricans and Central Americans.

I’ll take the good guys. Until society elects the bad guys. Then you will scream bloody murder for constitutional protections.... which the socons drove a mack truck through "because you can trust the good guys."
You go ahead and take the "good guys." I will take the rule of law, which provides some protection against not only the bad guys, but against the good guys who go bad when confronted with all that power and wealth.

From the article:
The accuracy of her numbers isnt the point, anyway its the notion that, because there are people of many faiths in the United States, those of the Christian faith must not think or act like Christians when engaging the public square. That is similar to something then-Sen. Obama said a couple of years ago, arguing in a speech before a gathering of liberal Christians that democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals be subject to argument, and amenable to reason, he added. I may be opposed to abortion for religious reasons, but if I seek to pass a law banning the practice, I cannot simply point to the teachings of my church or evoke God's will. I have to explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths, including those with no faith at all.
That is, as my theologian friend Al Mohler called it, secularism with a smile offered in the form of an invitation for believers to show up, but then only to be allowed to make arguments that are not based in their deepest beliefs. Kathleen Parker has gone even one step further, though. Shes rescinding the invitation altogether.

Parker never called for taking God out of our public life. But she did question to value of the some of the more wing nutted social conservatives in that article.
I did notice that Dr. Dobson had to remind his readers to be polite when writing to Ms. Parker. Now why would good Christians need to be reminded to do that?

Rule of law was touted by the ancient Greeks, and the framers liked it as well. Sozhenitsyn is one modern figure who recognized the tyranny of law.
There is only one thing that reduces a tyranny: something higher.

Nothing wrong with being reminded. The mistake is to think you’ve arrived and no longer need reminding.

You are right. All the elites from every profession in America need to spend a month living, shopping and observing life in the southwest. We don’t live in America anymore. Third world rule by mob, crime and bribery is here.

There are a lot of us who think like that we're not ranting from soapboxes on street corners. We're concerned Americans who believe in God and traditional values. They're good for all seasons, not just when we win an election. We won't shut up and keep quiet to make those who hate us happy. Social conservatives have a seat at the table of democracy and will continue to have a voice in the Republican Party.
