I though so. I came thru Palm Springs at dawn, on Amtrak. It was one of the most beautiful sites I saw. The sun was shining thru the palms.

My mom got pretty much the same. She said it was a lucky year when they got cloth for new dresses & that she really looked forward to that orange. She lived on a farm & had 5 brothers & 4 sisters. This year I am cutting way down on presents. I was thinking of writing everything I know about my mom’s stories of growing up & giving them to my older children.

“My mom told us that when she was a little girl, she got an orange, a couple of pieces of chocolate, and a little toy in her stocking on Christmas morning. That was it.”

That was the era of “Miracle on 34th Street”, welcome to the era of “Jingle All the Way”. It seems to have happened very quickly.

The only good thing that might come out of this incident is that two fewer gang members are now walking the streets of Palm Desert.

Who the heck knows. I just googled ‘toys r us shooting’ and the second entry is an article that said it was an argument between two groups of people.

But ironically the next google entry, the third choice, is the Toys R Us site promoting three pages (32 items) with the description “ Home > Video Games > Xbox 360 > Fighting & Shooting “

Do we dare ask what was race of the shooter?

From the raw video of her arrest it is obvious that the shooter was not white. She was a fat ugly woman and spoke English.

isn’t it illegal to carry a gun in CA? Wow, I am glad they have really strict gun laws.

Yeah, it's illegal to enter this country too.

Fact is, California has more firearms, and is the most armed state in this country.

People that mouth off in traffic and get into it in public are just asking for it IMO....This goes for all states. According to witnesses, the two armed combatants were in a heated argument just prior to both pulling weapons and opening fire, leaving both dead.

Another fact is, many people are very tightly wound nowadays. Just the way it is. Avoid public confrontations, even though you might want to choke someone off.

What is interesting, is both the dead were armed...Likely bad blood between the two, or rival gang members meeting up in the toy isle. It's likely these two had prior contact long before this event.

Exactly - Christmas is for kids ... plus you don’t give them clothing or anything else that you’d normally buy for them during the year ...

My brother lost a ton of money in his 401-k this year and he told me recently that his kids are each going to get one toy this Christmas. It’s going to be really interesting to see their reaction. I have a feeling it’s not going to be pretty!

“And the two men inside pulled their weapons and shot each other.”

Gang related?
Two shooters kill each other?
That actually sounds like quite a good outcome.

From the looks of their violent swearing, fat girlfriends they were certainly not prizes.

Ah, the lefties sense of entitlement.

Hey, knee-jerk....care to fill us in on your obviously well-thought-out comment?

A Wal-Mart worker was trampled to death as the store opened in Long Island, too.

I was a block away this morning hitting the Black Friday sales at Circuit City, Best buy and others in the area. Lines last year had formed from about 6pm the night before. This morning the crowds weren’t as bad, but probably 100-200 per store in line since 4am when Best Buy was supposed to open, but delayed until 5am.

The crowds continue to arrive upon opening at 5am for about 30 minutes as even though the crowd moved into the store steadily, the line remained as long outside, maybe 100yds long, 2-5 people wide. Very little street lighting in the area of the parking lots.

We noticed a number of high school to college aged minorities in the area, apparently not familiar with the streets. Over the past 2 years in this area, even where Gerald Ford used to live in Rancho Mirage, there have been several home invasions of upper middle class families and graffitti/tagging, marking territory of MS13 gangs.

Palm Desert is a very vast community ranging from many illegal aliens and Central American immigrants, up to multimillion dollar mansion neighborhoods in gated communities with institutional wealth. It is somewhat buffered between Palm Springs/Cathedral City/Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells/La Quinta/Indio. For those familiar with the movie, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Palm Desert is the desert city just below the opening scene of the movie where Jimmy Durante drives his car off the hairpin desert mountain road and then ‘kicks the bucket’.

The Toys R Us mentioned is on Hwy 111 , one of the closest shopping centers to the Annenburg Estate and Eisenhower Medical Center.

It’s a decent neighborhood with many of the more affordable rental duplexes for lower income families in the valley.

Everyone I know is worrying over Christmas presents. I have slowly cut back for a few years on my older now adult children. I think my 9 yr old is going to be a bit upset but I don’t hide the news from her & she knows how many people are losing their homes etc. It is going to be a small Christmas here but maybe that is a Blessing. Getting the latest toy & having tons of presents isn’t what Christmas really is .....

I read an article the other day that said they are having a problem with gangs on Catalina Island.

The economy may be bad, but at least gas has dropped. Finally $1.89/gal for reg unleaded in Palm Desert this morning at the gas station next to the Toys R Us.

Prayers out for the families of those killed and/or wounded in this affair.

Maybe its time we get back to Christmas Caroling instead of Black Friday shopping.
