Two people have died after a shooting inside the Toys-R-Us in Palm Desert Friday morning, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.
The shooting happened just before 11:30 a.m. at the store located at 72314 Highway 111.
The identities of those killed have not been released yet. No word if a gunman has been captured.
Several people have been arrested including a teenager who was held inside the store. News Channel 3 cameras captured at least two arrests outside the store including a woman who was heard screaming and banging on a Sheriff’s cruiser.
Deputies told News Channel 3 that some shoppers inside were evacuated while others were kept in the store shortly after the shooting as deputies swept the store for suspects.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department as well as officers from the Cathedral City and Indio police departments are on scene.
The shooting comes on the morning of Black Friday, one of the year’s busiest shopping days.

A shooting took place inside a toy store today and two people were killed, authorities said.
The violence erupted on Black Friday, the traditional post-Thanksgiving start of the holiday shopping surge, but accounts of what occurred inside the store were fragmentary or second hand and it was not clear whether it involved any shopping frenzy.
The Palm Desert Police Department received calls of shots fired around 11:35 a.m., Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez said.
“We have two dead individuals inside the store,” he said. “The events of why the shots were fired is still ongoing.”
Toys ‘R’ Us officials did not immediately return calls for comment. The Toys ‘R’ Us store is located at Fred Waring Road and Highway 111.
Immediately after the shooting, about 20 people rushed into the World Gym across the street from Toys ‘R’ Us, the gym’s assistant manager Glenn Splain told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
“They were crying, tearing and shaking,” Splain said, adding that one woman came in cradling a baby.
“Some people got into a fight,” said Splain, who spoke with some of the customers. “One of the guys here thought it was over a toy but it got louder and louder and then there were gunshots.”
Sarah Pacia of Cathedral City told The Desert Sun newspaper she was in the store with her two boys, ages 4 and 6, looking at coloring books when she heard a commotion in the next aisle. She thought it was people rushing to get a sale item. Then she heard three or four shots.
She said she froze, and store employees calmly escorted her out of the store.
“This is Toys ‘R’ Us. There are kids shopping in there,” Pacia said. Her son Jayden, 4, was clinging to her leg. He told her he didn’t want to die, she said.

My mom told us that when she was a little girl, she got an orange, a couple of pieces of chocolate, and a little toy in her stocking on Christmas morning. That was it.
I’ve never heard her complain about missing anything. She’s always told us that those childhood Christmases were wonderful.

I worked grocery retail for a number of years out of high school and know first hand the derangement level of a lot of shoppers. And that’s just for milk and a loaf of bread. I can’t even begin to imagine having to deal with all the gimmie-gimmies who want their ten dollar I-Pod or whatever.

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Two people were shot to death in a crowded toy store on Black Friday in a confrontation apparently involving rival groups, city officials said.
Palm Desert Councilman Jim Ferguson said police told him two men with handguns shot and killed each other. Ferguson said he asked police whether the incident was a dispute over a toy or whether it was gang-related. He said police told him they were not going to release further details until the victims’ relatives were notified.
“I think the obvious question everyone has is who takes loaded weapons into a Toys “R” Us?” he said. “I doubt it was the casual holiday shopper.”
City spokeswoman Sheila Gilligan said police told her the shooting broke out between “two groups of individuals that have a dispute with each other.”
Maybe they should make it illegal to carry guns in Palm Desert.
Or maybe they should make it so that like, only one out of every 2,600 people can even get a permit.
Yeah, I’m sure that would have prevented this.
This will be on “COPS” before long, as that area films lots of stuff for that show.
Yes. Actually, a very nice area. Been to that store many a time. It's only maybe a mile or so from where President Ford lived. It's a very nice area, just east of Palm Springs............
Not totally.....Palm Desert has changed much in the last 20 years.

Shots rang out today inside a Toys R Us store in Palm Desert, killing two and causing shoppers at the busy store to scramble for cover.
Palm Desert Councilman Bob Spiegel told The Times that based on early reports, two rival groups shopping at the store had some kind of argument and then shots were fired. Two men were killed in the exchange of gunfire, he said.

The Desert Sun quoted a Palm Desert city official as saying the shooting might have been caused by bad blood between two groups of shoppers. “There were two groups inside that had issue with each other,” said Assistant City Manager Sheila Gilligan. “And the two men inside pulled their weapons and shot each other.”
Darn near already is.......................
That last sentence had me tear up. My youngest is 4. Just a little guy.
Gotta be gang related. A lot of high desert communities have become ganglands in the last few years, so it wouldn’t surprise me if low desert ones have, too.
