Conason: Don't Worry, Liberals--Obama Still Planning Radical Change
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 11/27/2008 7:57:53 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Joe Conason's column should be as chilling to conservatives as it is meant to be comforting to liberals. His message: don't be distracted by the centrist-seeming appointments Pres.-elect Obama has made to his economic team. He remains as committed as ever to his radical agenda.

Conason's commentary appears this morning at Rasmussen Reports. Key lines [emphasis added]:

"[W]hen liberals point to Summers and other members of the Obama team, crying betrayal, they misunderstand the strategy behind those appointments. The most important thing to remember about the president-elect as he prepares to govern is that he takes the long view -- and that he knows how to make a reasonable case for radical change. He has not taken one step back from the commitments he articulated during his campaign."

I absolutely cannot stand this maggot. He is the most hate-filled humanoid in the “media.” Pure hate.

One hates ever to agree with Joe Conason. He’s truly a disgusting human being. But this time, he’s absolutely correct!

It’s the boiling a frog strategy .. put in people from the Clinton Era who we’ve been told are ‘moderate.’ Put more radical leftists in the tier below them, ready to take over in a year or two after they’ve gotten their bearings and the ‘moderate’ resigns/retires. By then, no one is really paying attention and won’t notice the radical takeover.

I am scared to death what these people will accomplish in 4 years and can’t even contemplate 8.

Could be just a “hope” on part of leftists. I guess this Obama promise is still alive.

No. Obama is as serious as a heart attack. If you’ll look at the Hugo Chavez model, he works somewhat like Chavez in my opinion. - From what I’ve seen in Chicago, Obama’s sponsored “housing developments” (now boarded up after millions in government money have been poured into his Rezko buddy) parallel Chavez’z crappy, half-baked, housing developments in Venezuela. By the time Obama gets through making mud pies with our tax dollars, this country will be “radicalized” alright. He’s just a little bit more educated, a little bit slicker Chavez (who also is noted for simply eliminating his opponents through his own personal executive orders and proclamations). His people are either “in love with him” or “cowed”.

> I am scared to death what these people will accomplish in 4 years and can’t even contemplate 8.

That would take developing a View on whether or not you believe Obama is Competent:

If he is Competent then in four years he can achieve much of his promised agenda. If that happens then America is in a heap of trouble.

If he is Incompetent he will be blown around by every little crisis and everything he tries to do will stuff up badly. It will be Chaos. If that happens then America will be in a real mess.

Under the Competent scenario, you have him for eight years followed by his Leftist successor for another eight years.

Under the Incompetent scenario, you have him for four years, perhaps eight, and you will have one Hell of a mess to clean up, and maybe a couple cities glassed over by your enemies.

Either way, America is poked and Americans are in a heap of trouble.

I would look for his first moves to be in the courts, the military and the bureaucracy. Once these institutions have been radicalized he can remove the facade.

This is so obvious that it pains one to even have to point it out. One only need look at the history of Cuba or Venezuela to see how this strategy is executed.

One can look forward to the day when Peggy Noonan and the other dupes in the media are carted off wondering "how could this have happened????"

Too bad for America. Too bad for the world. The foolish never wake up in time.

Well Duh!?!

The motivational speaker turned president will not have to push the radical agenda. San Fran Nan and Ol’ Harry will do it for him. He will sign every bill before him. The MSM will give him as much cover as possible. The only thing the big O cannot do is make numbers go away, such as the unemployment numbers, the Dow numbers, etc.

“I am scared to death what these people will accomplish in 4 years and can’t even contemplate 8.”

If our worst fears about Obama come true in 2 years America will be so disillusioned with him and his “changes” that any republican who runs on a promise to impeach Obama will be elected; we could theoretically be rid of these leftists in 2 years.
Of course this assumes that their are free elections in 2 years. As we have seen in Venezuela once they get in power the first thing they do is subvert the election process.

To me the most frightening prospect is the fact that their is no way that a “green” agenda with Al Gore approved global warming policies will not cause almost immediate economic disaster of a severity that dwarfs our current liquidity crisis.
No matter how much propaganda the media spews the American people are not going to vote to impoverish themselves, based on a bogus pseudo-scientific theory.

Obama’s people realize that the foolish shortsighted American public can not be trusted to “save the planet” and thus the democratic process must be subverted to protect the public from the consequences of their own ignorance.

Probably so. I think I remember him posting here for a while. I don't remember if he got banned or just got tired of playing 'lightning rod'. :-)

0bama had a hand in closing the most dangerous housing projects (Robert Taylor Homes, Cabrini-Green) in Chicago. Many of the thugs turfed out were sent downstate to wreak havoc in their new cities/towns. One of these towns was where I graduated high school. Since the thugs from the projects were given housing, in my small town of yesterday, the crime rate has skyrocketed.

The stupidest thing Obama could do is ram a hard left agenda down the country’s throat right off the bat. He’ll pick his battles and work with a left wing Congress to do it for cover or otherwise.

Don’t forget the Congress’ role in all this and a center-right foreign policy means nothing as far as indicating how he will govern domestically.

It's not that I don't believe 0bama will govern from the radical left, he just won't be able to do it as quickly or as radically as he intends. America will not let him. Eventually, Clinton had to give in to republican, conservative demands to scale back welfare.

America being a more conservative nation foolishly has elected a person to be President, who has absolutely no qualfications to be Commander-In-Cheif.(Let that sink in...)

This socialist prick was elected because of WHITE LIBERAL GUILT, that's it!

This scenario could result in impeachment, as theoretically the entire House could change membership to Obama opponents.

There is no way the 2010 elections could result in a 2/3 GOP majority in the Senate. The GOP could pick up (in theory) a maximum of about 16 seats, giving them about 60 or 62 votes only.

Clinton had a GOP congress to deal with. Obama has big majorities in both houses. Different situation.
