Today President Bush took part in the 61st National Thanksgiving Turkey Ceremony in the White House Rose Garden. (Transcript)

This is my final Thanksgiving as the President. Over the past eight years, I have been given many reasons to be thankful. I'm thankful to our men and women in uniform and I am incredibly proud to have been their Commander-in-Chief. (Applause.) I am thankful for the armies of compassion volunteers who feed the hungry and shelter the poor. I am thankful for the teachers and nurses and pastors police officers and firefighters, and others who serve their neighbors and better their communities.

I'm thankful for the wonderful and supporting family that I have been blessed with. I'm grateful to Laura for her love. I'm grateful for two Thanksgiving miracles who were blessed -- who we were blessed with 27 years ago: Barbara and Jenna. I'm thankful for the fact that my mother is doing well. (Applause.) And this year we're looking forward to having another place at our Thanksgiving table with a son-in-law, and I'm thankful for Henry.

President & Mrs. Bush and their daughter Barbara departed the White House this afternoon for Camp David, where they will stay this Thanksgiving weekend.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice held a news conference at the State Department in Washington.

The White House: It's a museum where tourists come to see our country's history, a place of business where some of the greatest decisions of democracy have been made and, to the families of 41 presidents, it has also been a home. The White House is perhaps the most photographed location in the United States but those images rarely get beyond the exterior.

Now, President and Mrs. Bush invite viewers to join them on the first in-depth televised tour of this grand residence since Jacqueline Kennedy invited cameras inside in 1962. President and Mrs. Bush share their own personal insights into what it has been like to live in this historic house.

Special guests, the brothers Leslie and Leigh Keno, well known from television's Antiques Roadshow, join Mrs. Bush to offer their engaging insights to the journey. All new. 90 min.

Happy Thanksgiving!

He looks really nice in this suit. I didn't even know Disneyland had a Thanksgiving parade. And now I can go visit the turkey in Frontierland... who knew?

That looks sooooo good! Do you carmalize the milk in the can? I’m not sure I would have the patience to wait the 2 hrs. Like someone else suggested on that thread, sweetened condensed milk, caramels, and butter is faster and tastes amazing.

Snugs, several years ago my Mother was very ill and weak in the hospital with double pneumonia and congestive heart failure, and it seemed she was best able to breathe deeply and cough stuff up if her upper body was elevated as much as possible. Just something to keep in mind for your Dad. Also, after she was moved to a bed with one of those handles above it, she started using that to pull herself up, and I believe that bit of exercise also helped her regain her strength.

Though it was rather iffy for several days, Mother fully recovered, and I pray the same for your Dad.

Thank you, jonny, for the great Dose.

Stephen Curtis Chapman wrote a song for President Bush that can be heard here:

Very, very sweet. I think I am going to be crying a lot in the next couple of months.

More commie Thanksgiving food -

I am making a 'chicken' version of the Seitan o'Greatness. This will be my first vegan Thanksgiving. I thought I might have turkey, but then decided against it. I make a more beef-like version of this, as well as seitan 'ribz,' which are quite good. Seitan is made from vital wheat gluten and has been used for hundreds of years by Buddhist monks as a meat substitute. It is actually quite good, but probably quite commie as well. : )

Photobucket This is a pic from PostPunkKitchen.com, where I got the recipe. The loaf slices up nicely and can be used cold in sandwiches or reheated.

I saw a post-Thanksgiving recipe from Kraft for a cream cheese, cranberry sauce, and turkey panini. I thought I'd make mine w/the seitan and vegan cream cheese. I also made a nice vegan pumpkin pie. It's all good, but again, probably commie.

ROTFL I wish you could see me, because I am blushing so red! I was just goofing around. I don't think vegan food for Thanksgiving is commie, just ham. LOL

The Seitan o'Greatness looks good and a heck of a lot better then the "tofurkey" I've seen. The panini sounds very good! Cream cheese makes everything better. What's in the vegan pumpkin pie?
